Given how busy the last couple of (less stellar) legend slots have been I don't think Rod needs to worry about his crowd size.

Rod's not doing the Elton slot, he's the daytime singalong, he's got loads that people will know. He'll pull some Faces bangers out as well.

 

Neil Young has the issue of not enough songs people know. Personally doubt there's going to be much of a crowd for him, every one of my older group (50ish) could probably give you a dozen of Rod songs at the drop of a hat but only know a couple of Neils at best.

Thought the overall opinion of the efesters is that it’s completely irrelevant. As long as old duffers can stumble onto stage that’s enough, at least that’s what I understand

I think it’s a decent line-up and pretty diverse.  I’d always like to see it be a little more alternative than it is, but it’s looks pretty good to me.

 

For me, Neil Young is the greatest living artist.  Shame Charli XCX is against him as she’s probably my number two artist on this year’s list.

That is true about the slot. 

 

That's interesting about Neil/Rod because for me and my mates (mid 30s to early 50s) Neil is a credible artist whose influenced acts we all like and very much a want to tick off our live acts to see and for a lot Rod is a bit of a naff legacy act. Not for me personally, enjoyed his American songbook albums especially, and grew up on his music through my mum. 

 

Both great bookings for me anyway. I think if Rod picks a good setlist and his voice is in shape (last saw him when I was 10!) it'll be fantastic.

Gave this a quick listen. Surprisingly, liked it even less than I expected (and expectations were LOW). Sure those who go and watch Rod will have a blast. Hard pass from me and will be somewhere else. Never been more sure I don’t want to go to the Legends slot. Just not for me 😬

Nah. Not a fair comparison, EJ has been far more credible than RS over all the years plus Rocketman was a No.1 movie and he had collabs with younger acts. And even then, come on thousands of youngsters didn't "know every word" of Elton's songs.

Folk on this thread and others are talking up the handful of decent songs The 1975 have and there's also a case to be made that they will play to more pre recorded synths and drums etc than O Rod will.

 

In contrast pretty much everything Rod will play will be a massive recognisable tune with each played pretty much live by an incredible band.

 

I really don't like Rod Stewart, but you can't deny what you just said.

I must admit my negative opinion of The 1975 was based on only hearing the odd song but not really playing much attention, and Matt Healy and all the grimness that surrounds him. So I thought I should at least give them a decent listen. 

I'm now more certain than ever I won't be watching them.
