Some serious reaching going on hereΒ

Β

I think it's just because of Halloween lolΒ

It's just because of the announcement of the announcement being in October, Download rarely actually hint at the headliner unless it's someone massive like when they hinted at Green Day before the announcement.Β

I like the idea of this hinting towards something though, as in similar to how the hinted ta Greenday last year. Adds a bit of hype to it all before they officially announce. Would be cool if this was something that they just did from now on each year.

Agree, makes the wait a bit more interesting.

I mean conspiracy theory hat on, "the truth is out there" is definitely some sort of clue to something. I don't quite think it's X-Files, lol. But it's a random thing to add onto the announcement.Β

Β

Also worth nothing the image is clearly AI generated, as in they specifically wanted that image for this email.

Β

I'm not sure what it means / what it says but it is saying more than just a generic picture of the festival and saying "announcement is soon!".

Andy Copping did use to hint at bands on his Instagram for a few years the day before the announcementΒ

I think that is what the "truth is out there" is alluding to. Specifically "keep an eye on our socials, the truth is out there" - I believe it means they'll be hints at some point over the month or a specific hint of some kind. Probably like when we had the green fireworks last year, they'll be some sort of lite-touch hint coming soon.Β

Β

That's my takeaway.

Yeah that’s it and the fact it’s Halloween. Don’t think we can link it to a band yet like Foos, Blink & Ghost. That’s just proper stretchingΒ

You could make any spurious guess out of it but as it's a bit of fun, I'm all for it, even if it doesn't mean jack sh*t.Β

Β

Some sort of Ozzy/Sabbath tribute.Β

Β

Season of the Witch - Donovan is headlining.Β

Β

Black magic woman and I'll have a bit of Carlos Santana at DL.Β

Did he? All I remember is people thinking MCR were going to be the secret set last year because of something he posted.Β

Yeah he use to have a box with a bunch of images in that were loosely related to bands getting announced, some of which being more obvious than others like a white snake being Whitesnake.

Β

The MCR thing though was him just posting an image of the Download Dog skeleton plush people in RIP got in their Download goodie bag and people took it completely out of context to somehow think a skeleton dog plush must mean MCR are playing because it's black and white like they are.Β

Β

Secret set ended up being Parkway Drive and got leaked before the actual festival.Β

I still can’t believe that there were some people who thought that My Chemical Romance (you know, biggest band in the universe, My Chemical Romance) were going to turn up and play for 30 minutes unannounced.Β

Did I miss that or just discount it immediately, I have no memory of that one.

Β

Only secret set rumour I remember was Trivium. Good old fashioned hoax that one, not seen the like in years.

it was that or the foos last year, then this year it was either Architecxts or Malevolence on the sunday while Trivium was opening a stage on the saturday (the latter people actually beleived so badly taht they turned up expecting it just to be told on the tannoy it was bullshit)

"The truth is out there" is also a phrase associated with former band member Tom DeLonge, who adopted it as a personal mantra for his UFO and extraterrestrial research, leading him to a brief departure from the band in the 2010s to pursue these endeavors.Β Β

Β

It's such a random quote to have below an image of 2 witches.

Β

Blink-182 it is then

Tbf the dog plush thing was kind of on copping, he used the hashtag β€œblack parade” on the original photo. Although the lineup had already been announced at that point so the chances of MCR actually turning up were diddly squat.

I mean that’s a reach.Β
Β

The Green Day β€˜clue’ was on the nose referencing one of their biggest hits and the colour Green. If that’s what they were going for with the witch and the quote I doubt they’d reference some obscure UFO research of Tom DeLonge.Β

    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious… Β  Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touchΒ  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environmentΒ  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekendΒ  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to helpΒ
