Its typical Sziget, marketing not there strong point. Much better than belgian festivals though. ☺️

Yeah could be, the announcements just feel a bit unstructured to me compared to rock werchter etc. but that might be me just not knowing what to expect from sziget as it will be my first time

The Monday looks a really good day for me.

Luvcat

Kingfishr

Refused

Kneecap

Plus the 3 main stage acts I would watch, as long as they don't clash with the others.

I'm excited for Spyres, then Luvcat will be cool, the rest will depend on clashes for me. I hope Kneecap will play after Chappell Roan, so I can watch The Last Dinner Party as well. With a potential late night Mirror Glimpse it could be one of my favourite days ever! It's gonna be a long one as well haha

How would you split time between the festival and the city as a first timer? Does one day in Budapest suffice?

Also, is the boat party any fun?

Depends on your physical shape and planning I guess. I only had some time in the city a day before festival started because I arrived one day earlier. During festival it was just impossible for me. Usually arriving around 7pm on the island and staying till 4 or 5 in the morning. Plus time to get there and come back. Just add showers, breakfast and regular stuff plus sleep and recovering from day before, there's just no time for anything else.

I usually stay in Budapest 1 or 2 days before and after, this year doing 2 days before and 1 after.

If you want to break up the festival a bit, pick a day you are not fussed by. I tend to stay at the festival all the way through.

Although the mains stages dont start to late afternoon, so plenty time to visit Budapest if you are camping.

It will be my 11th time in Budapest this year and I still have things I wanna see that I didn't see before. I usually come 1-2 days before the festival and also stay 1-2 days after the festival to go to thermal baths and explore the city. There is no way for me to explore the city during the festival since I'm at the fesival from like 13-14 (going to circus, workshops before concerts start) and staying until 3.

Boat party to me is not worth it, it's fun, you are at the boat and you get to see the city (buda castle, parlament, chain bridge..) but that's 30-40 extra euros and by the time you get back you'll miss 1-2 concerts at the island. Plus there is so much to do during the day (cirque du sziget, dance perfomances, standup comedy, workshops, walkabouts..)

Explore the festival.

There's always so much to see mate. It really isn't just a music festival. Find new music, take a wander to stages you wouldnt normally do. Just think of Glastonbury with wall to wall hot weather, with a beach...

Its why I love the longer festivals like Sziget and Roskilde, its a slower pace and so much more relaxed and chilled. With 6 days of music, used to be 7. There's always going to be lulls in what you are interested in musically.

I think ive done 7 or 8 Szigets now, say every year im not going due to line ups. Here I am again, not even talking about werchter in a few weeks. But my fave festival ive ever been to, Sziget. 😍

Kneecap are no longer performing at TRNSMT.

It's going to be interesting to see how European festivals decide.

Some German festivals already removed them from their lineups a few weeks ago.

When someone asked sziget about it they kinda gave a nonanswer

Literally explore the festival, look at the program when it comes out, there are workshops, dance performances, circus, giant street theatre, drag queen shows, stand up comedy, walkabouts, travelling funfair, you can collect stamps for your passport and get a gift when you collect them all, like there is so much beside music. But also maybe go and see some random acts, my friend discovered Palaye Royale that way and now she's obsessed with them, other friend found out about Ocean Alley the same way and last year I came across Liberato and had so much fun at their concert

I get exploring it but only 3 of 7 days with music on of interest is very poor. I mea. It's just not for me.

That does sound amazing tbf.  Normally a push for me to get away for a 4 day festival, not sure I’ll be able to get away for over a week! Joys of kiddos

We have a good set up.

I go to festivals with mates.

Wife goes on a cruise with her friends.

Then we have a family holiday all together.

Everyone is happy. 😃

You definitely get the better end of that deal.

How many mates are you coming to Sziget with this year?

Yes couldn't think of anything worse than a cruise.

3 maybe 4, open to debate at the minute.

    • Least enjoyable of my 5 visits, Thursday a complete sh*tshow, found the crowds a bit overwhelming at times on the Fri and especially Sat with dicks of all nationalities just ploughing through people with no consideration and on the whole just never got the same glow up I've previously had.   I think I might have got old.
    • the bit near the end where he treads on his mic is perfect
    • My first and probably last PS to be honest. Thursday apart i’ve enjoyed it a lot; The Cure, MBV, Little Simz, Gorillaz and a good few more. Thursday was a total ahit-show and the travelling back to our apartment is just too much of a pain in the arse. Scalping bastards upped their game at 3:30 am, wanted €80 for a couple of miles ride.  Also the yammering arses who never shut the f**k up, had to move constantly to find a decent spot. The crazy drink prices don’t help and this weeks holiday as cost us about the thick end of £1800 without spending money.
