It's very much utd of the 80s, raise it against the big boys and everyone else it's scary how bad it is. 

 

Wouldn't rule us out beating arsenal in the cup, then losing to Southampton at home.

We have Ole's Man Utd losing at home to a previously hopeless Sheffield United then beating that season's PL champions Man City at the Etihad. So it would be on brand.

His record was a bit crazy to be fair, unbeaten in 28 premier league away games and bang average at home.

I know I have a habit in particular of making this thread a bit Newcastle centric, but tonight went pretty well if I do say so. Obviously not job done, but a big hurdle I had doubts we'd clear cleared so yay.

Was it Matterface on commentary? He was talking like Newcastle were the plucky underdogs. From a neutral perspective, if Arsenal score first it could be a great second round!

I'd love to think there might be a heroic backs to the wall result from Spurs tonight, but i absolutely cannot see it -we just dont have the bodies. A one legged semi we could fluke, but two legs makes it almost impossible. We will have some players back for the second leg - which is bloody ages away, inexplicably - but the tie will be dead after tonight anyways.

At least the spectre of a Spurs v Arsenal final is decidedly unlikely, i would not be able to manage the tension of that at all

It'll be interesting to see what team Liverpool put out tonight. Once you reach the semi, the Carabou Cup suddenly seems important. I don't think it's will be full strength but doubt it will be the kids either. Plenty of decent players that are normally on the bench will likely start.

Sadly I suspect it'll be Liverpool triumphing in the other semis given Spurs' lack of defence. Their concession of 6 goals against Liverpool the last time they met just a month or so ago isn't the greatest guide that they'll be more resolute in the meeting tonight.

It's kinda of a weird throwback tbf that this tournament still has two legged semi finals. I think it also used to have a two legged final and two legs in the early rounds, and I also seem to recall it was single leg semis during covid, but it is still a little bit of a curious outlier.

 

But yeah, I think the second leg would've been in one of the weeks of the Champions League's new extra group stage games, and as Arsenal are in that, the game has to be arranged around that commitment.

I’m hoping for a spurs v Newcastle final. These finals with a combination of Liverpool, Arsenal, Man U , man c and Chelsea all just merge into one for me.

I did see the concession of a trio of goals at Newcastle a few weeks back, plus Alexander-Arnold's recent wobbles amid the rumours he's off to Madrid for next season. But the attack is still bloody good so I assume will be good enough to see off Spurs, not least given the as-before mentioned precedent that they conceded six goals to Spurs the other week.

QFs had them as 2-legs for quite a while, I think that was only ditched pretty recently.

 

I really like 2-legged football, particularly in later knockout stages.

Only seen a 15-second clip but he didn’t look well before the corner was taken. Did they not stop playing straight away either?

Alisson made a save and the ball was kicked behind for a corner. It was at that point that the ref and a Spurs team-mate made them aware of what happened, at which point the game stopped for ten minutes.

 

Bentancur himself has put a message online saying he's ok, so that's a start.
