Arrival Tuesday General East Camperfield

Hi,

Perhaps it has been already discussed but I was not able to fully find the answers for my question.

This year we will go for the second time to Glastonbury (We do live in the Netherlands and go by our own camper). Last time was in 2016 and we stayed on the West Camperfield which doesnt exist anymore.

This year we will leave on Monday morning by camper from the Netherlands, have a visit to Stonehedge and will spent one night on a camping in Butleigh. On Tuesday morning we will leave and go towards the East Camperfield to be there at 12:00 sharp when it opens. First question is, if there is already a traffic jam at that time or will it relative be easy to drive to the East Camperfield entrance?

We do have an General East Camperfield ticket (we thought that was closest to the Festival, rather the Quiet Field due to noises). In 2016 it was easily possible for us to entrance the festival at 8:00 on Wednesday morning since the entrance there was only possible for people that were staying on the Westfield Camperfield. But how is this for the people that stay on the General Camperfield? I have been told that people that park their car can move around on the camperfield already and also get in line at the entrance. Ideally, we would like to be at the entrance again at around 8:00 on Wednesday morning. Simply to appreciate the festival but also the people on the campings that are already there that early with lots of stuff. Respect for them, in the netherlands we are only allowed to bring six cans of beer, and one bottle of coke with us to the festival. But in 2016, we bought a cheap small one person tent, and around 9:00 on Wednesday morning we were able to set it up near the Glade area. We used the tent during the festival for our drinks we brought everyday to the festival and for some clothing, lenses and glasses. We only went back to the camper when we wanted to sleep. My question is actually, do we have to be in a long line together with all the people that stay at the carpark or can we wait at the entrance a bit earlier before the bulk of people from the carpark come over to the entrance?

Final question 😉 Do people have a chat with eachother on the camperfield on Tuesday afternoon? We do want to bring our small BBQ with us, and have a chat and drink with the neighbours, perhaps want to join the BBQ. Or do people stay most of their time at their own camper?

Thanks if you can help us out! Would appreciate this a lot.

Alex

at 12 on the tuesday there will be a queue, but it'll be quick moving (assuming its reasonably dry) so you'll be parked up by 1pm I expect.

depending on where you are parked, it's about 15 min walk to Gate C, so not too far, but people will start queueing at Tuesday afternoon, and there will be a big influx of people around 6AM on the wednesday and everyone piles in from the car parks- you are free to walk around, wander over and have a look on the tuesday evening 🙂

Some people chat, I guess it depends on your neighbours.

plenty of people hang about at the top of the hill by Gate C in the evening though, take some chairs and some beers 🙂 this was tuesday eve last year:

To answer a few of your questions.

There will be a steady queue of camping cars all day Tuesday, it's likely that the gates will be open before midday.

We arrive mid-afternoon and it usually takes around an hour to get parked up.

If your friends park in 'east' they'll be able to walk into the camper fields on Tuesday evening, it's far more difficult to reach you if they park 'west' side.

People will start queuing at the entrance from the early hours of Wednesday onwards. At 8.00am the queue will be huge and will stretch well into the CV fields.

We usually wake up around 10.00am, have breakfast and a few drinks before heading down around 2.00pm, when the queue has got a lot smaller (still likely 15-30min entry time).

Tuesday afternoon/evening it all depends. Some people are happy to socialise, other are very private and happy with their own company. Personally, we'll be talking sh*t, drunk and up until the early hours, although lots of others seem to want an early night...

It's a much better idea to leave things in one of teh many property lockups rather than store your things in a tent onsite. 1 the lockups are way more secure and 2 you're taking up a camping spot unnecessarily that someone else could be using.

Can't find response to this as I've defo asked before, which campervan fields are the 'quiet' family ones on East Side?

On the site it says:

Situated between Blue route and the Festival site. Turn left for Quiet Camping off Blue route.

I can't imagine the difference between quiet campervan and the normal ones. We were in normal and there's barely a sound.

Yeh not bothered about the sound either way but read that the quiet camping is closer to gate C and I'm taking my kid with me so thought we'd get in that one. Can't find the response to the original question I asked though.

You'll need a east quiet campervan ticket to camp in the quiet area which is closer to gate C . I think the gates to the campervan field opened at about 8.30 am last year.

The ones to the left/west side of the blue line on the festival map - E19, 20, 21, 23 & 24 are East CV Quiet. They're not really any quieter though, if anything they are noisier as they are closer to the SEC. The labelling as Quiet came about due to them originally being called East CV Family and didn't have a separate ticket. They were set aside for people with kids, due to them being closer to PGC, but people soon cottoned on to the fact that they could claim to have kids coming later or had friends with kids and they could get a spot in there and reduce the amount they had to walk. I assume they relabelled as East CV Quiet to encourage people who expect to make a din (i.e. people without a family) to camp in East CV General, it doesn't work of course and everyone wants an East CV Quiet so they don't have a long walk back at the end of the night.

I stole it from a post by Fiona Ingram, the East Campervan Fields manager. 😂 Here's the original post, which also gives the order for General.

I’d recommend going towards Gate C, on top of the hill of death, early Tuesday evening, if the weather is fine it’s a fun and convivial atmosphere and there’s plenty of mixing, chat and as mentioned above even some music. Great views over the festival too.

The pre-delivered vans are always in E24 and E25 as well. I assume because they usually do that the weekend before the festival.

Yeah I think we'll end up in E24 this year as we're arriving late Tuesday night...unless they have some spaces to fill elsewhere

Last year we were here at about 4pm and by the evening e19 was full.

I've been in the campervan fields 3 times, most recently in 2022 and had a straight drive in around 8.30am on Tuesday.

Unofficial opening of the CV fields over recent years has been 8am Tuesday, sometimes it’s been slightly earlier than that. We were parked up by 8:15 last year and there were around 100 in before us.

It’s best if you have a contact on site, a volunteer perhaps, who can confirm the gates are open, otherwise it’s a risk if the gates don’t open as expected the police will move you on.

We have a quiet ticket, but due to work commitments for a couple of our party, we may not be able to arrive until later on Wednesday, or even very worst case scenario, very early on Thursday morning.

What is the deal in this situation? Do the quiet fields actually fill up, and you end up in the next normal CV east field?

Never known this to happen in normal weather, we've had vans parked up near us as late as Friday.

The campervan fields were waterlogged and severely churned up back in 2016, this is the only time I can remember that you didn't necessarily get your choice of field. We just got in just before 10pm on Tuesday after being in a 5 mile queue for 6 hours! Anyone arriving later got directed to  Bath & West Showground.

Any idea where the best place to get a child picked up late Thursday/Friday morning from festival is if we're in the East campervan fields?

Is there a pick up spot near festival entrance?

Bath and west show ground is the designated drop of and pickup point . shuttles from Gate A

not sure if anyone has any experience of this, but.... for the second year we have been provided with a space in the disabled access field.  Last year we didn't go down to the festival until mid-afternoon on the wednesday and there was little or no queue for us to join as we came out of the gated part of that field.  If we wanted to go earlier, would we need to turn right and head to the back of the queue?  or is there alternative provision for those with access issues?  We hate queue jumping but if there is a 'system' then that's different I think.

Depends on what Accessibility wristbands you have. If you have the wristband for using the cut throughs and your partner has a PA/Companion pass yes you can. Just walk through the opposite side of the field and get to where security have a cordon stopping people going down the hill. 😊

thanks, yes there are short cut wristbands in our pack so that might be helpful. I really enjoyed that field last year, the people were lovely.
