Think one of the lineups that I'm a bit soured on really is Damiano - why invite him back after Maneskin the previous year when he's only had a few songs out on his own? If he plays Maneksin songs again isn't that surely a repeat of last year? Would've been better putting him on the Thurs in the barn vs Linkin Park so you can have Iggy on his own without fear of a clash.

Because they have struggled for bookings based in what they have done

Damiano's album is out in May.

After having had a wonderful time for my first Rock Werchter last year and knowing it would be their 50th anniversary, I ended up buying my combi pass a little to quickly. Now most of the lineup has dropped, I'm reconsidering my summer.

I went to Dour 4 times, the first in 2012 and last in 2019. I found RW way better organize, easier to access, more clean and above all, people were more mature and respectful. I stopped going at Dour because I was tired of seeing teenagers take drugs for the first time and acting weirdly in public.

Do you guys know how is Reading/Leeds festival in comparison ?

Teenagers taking drugs for the first time and acting weirdly in public is kind of what Reading & Leeds is all about.

I haven’t been since 2003, and I already felt like the oldest person there at 25.

The lineup always looks fantastic, but the vibe is maybe a bit off.

There are probably others on this thread that have attended Reading & Leeds more recently than 2003 that could tell you different.

This description is spot on. @majmun if you're looking for a mature audience, R&L is the polar opposite.

I would just add that R&L audience care much less about the music nowadays, early slots tend to be quite empty as people are partying in the camping site and show up for trendy stuff and headliners.

It's a shame if you've decided that the weekend there is not for you. It's kinda for reasons like this why I'll never book a weekend ticket before I've got a fair bit of the lineup.

Yeah I did Reading and Leeds between 2006 and 12 for full weekend then I've done odd days since. I too was 25 my last weekend there and I've never camped again as I just outgrew it. You can cope in the arena for a day. There has only been a couple of years maybe that I could say I could have done a weekend there since but it never happened. Having someone try and pull you out your tent with a banging headline was the straw lol.

2010 aged 24 was the last of five visits to R&L for me, says everything you need to know. Dour sounds like spiritual cousin.

I'd imagine Isle of Wight is probably the closest thing in the UK in terms of audience to Werchter.

Although the Isle of Wight lineup this year is shocking. I'd say take a look at End of the Road. It's a good blend of new names and established acts - maybe no heavy hitters but you're getting very much what's going to be the heavy hitters 3-4 years down the line - look at this year's Werchter - Amyl and the Sniffers, Gurriers, Lambrini Girls, Fat Dog are all End of the Road graduates and Wet Leg met at that fest. I'm tempted to go this year again because it's just a brilliant festival - maybe a touch more family friendly but the afterparties are always fun and it's a nice, chilled, end of season vibe.

Yup.

Only oen of my group headed back to Leeds in 2014 two years later for a weekend and they are two years younger than me and then that was them done. I knew by Leeds 2012 it was my last weekend there camping.

Coins on sale at last years rate until 29th June according to their insta post!

Anyone that's been before give an idea of how many coins you need for the weekend? Would be nice to get some ahead of time for budgeting purposes

I think it depends ultimately on how much you're drinking - but the food can get quite pricey for what it is. there are stalls just outside that can be paid in euroes, but you'd have to come in/out of the fest each time you want food. I'll probably get my first meal there before heading in this time.

When it comes to food, don't pay too much attention to this price list; otherwise, you're in for a big surprise!

With the exception of a few food stands (the super crappy ones, you'll know them once there - you may go for snacks like fries or loempias but NOT for burgers and stuff) where these prices apply, most food that will catch your eye will be a lot more expensive than this.

Be prepared to pay 4-6 coins for most burgers that look decent and 3-5 coins for most food options in general.

wow that feels mega expensive, haven't been since 2018 but that seems like a bit of a jump. I guess it's just the way it is for everything at the moment

Sadly every festival/day gig and whatever else seems to be 10-15 for a decent meal now.  Doesn’t start till late so will try and buy something on the way in as breakfast/lunch and apparently that’s slightly cheaper.

Alcohol is what I expect too, be a shock not having Cider though!!

I think, if I was playing devil’s advocate, I’d probably agree that there is such a phenomenon as a ‘TikTok artist’, by which I mean an artist where a large crowd turn up to hear the 1 song they know, and record it on their phones, but stand around bored and chatting through the rest of the set.

The thing is, these artists are valid too. It’s not like it’s their fault one of their songs blew up on social media. And equally, the festival needs to book acts that people want to see. Generation Z consume a lot of music through TikTok and they are part of the festival crowd.

It annoys the hell out of me, but it probably annoys my 18 year old daughter when I drag her to see Spiritualized, claiming it will change her life.

Anyway, sorry for the long-ish post. Hopefully they’ll announce some more of the lineup this week, and we can get back to worrying about clashes.

TBH I found the Gen X crowd at Werchter FAR FAR worse than Gen Z when it comes to chatting while the act is playing. So many acts I was at the front and perhaps the first 5 rows were fine. But from row 5 it's ON. So many Gen X backpack wearing dudes with in large groups with a million beers just talking non stop.

I agree with you. My generation (Gen X) are the worst for chatting during the acts. Seems like it got 10 x worse after the pandemic, but I have no idea why.

It’s the thing that winds me up most at festivals, to be honest.

Please tell me that those aren’t the only beer choices.

In fact, surely there’s more alcohol options?

This might be a good time to try a sober festival. Failing that, where’s the nearest supermarket?

No, those are the beer choices available at any bar.

If you want more, go to the Apero.
