Wait wait, aren't the paralympic games (after the olympics) on the same dates as RES? Isn't it gonna be crazily expensive and packed in Paris?

Crazily expensive for what? I’ve already booked accommodation but it wasn’t any dearer than I’d expected.

Really looking forward to this. Last year was my first edition and I enjoyed it much more than some other highly regarded major festivals.

Some really nice mid-tier acts touring UK/Europe around the end of Aug. Hope we get some of Sofia Kourtesis, Royel Otis, Mdou Moctar, Confidence Man, Floating Points, Ty Segal etc. Although to me, there’s easily my moneys worth of acts I want to see over the 4 days already 👌

New names added. Amazing line-up

They said in Insta that this completes the line up? Is that enough names?

I’m only familiar with Bar Italia from that list so lots of homework to do, which is always exciting. Anyone I should particularly be looking out for?

its not enough names. the insta is maybe a bit confusing, but the newsletter said that its not all and the poster with all the bands has some dots on it. 46 acts from wednesday to sunday at the moment, last year they had 23/24 per day on the non-billie days.

Glass Beams and Yves Tumor for sure. There's also one of the many projects by Jonny Greenwood (who'll be playing also with The Smile) that are always interesting to check. Didn't know Ghinzu but I read they're a belgian band from the early 2000s recently reunited and accompained by some hype...

Will be in Paris with my wife and 9yo son when Rock en Seine is on and usually go to Glastonbury, Latitude, Truck Fest etc... each year.

Can anyone give me a run down of what this festival is like? Is it like the BST Hyde Park festival where you can only get close to the stage if you've paid for a 'golden circle' ticket or is it more relaxed?

It's a big city festival, has some corporate sponsorship but not as much as say Mad Cool. Its a decent vibe but like a lot of big city festivals you'll find a lot of people are there to socialise and catch one or two big acts and they aren't necessarily hammering it from stage to stage.

You can get right down the front for all stages with general admission, subject obviously to the usual considerations of getting their early if you're really keen on being in the barrier. There is a VIP option but the viewing area is that an angle to the side of main stage so doesn't massively get in the way if general admission punters.

It's a long thin site and you could find yourself doing a lot of walking if you are stage hopping.

Thanks for this helpful post! May I ask how far do you estimate the two big stages are from each other? Grande and Cascade?

Front of stage to front of stage, about 10 minutes walk, more if it's busy.  As mentioned you'll find a lot of people standing around talking, and not everyone heading in the same direction.  Easy enough to get a decent spot at the second stage, less so on the main stage where people will take up positions one or two acts ahead, to get a good spot for their favourite.

The third stage is at the "top" of the site as you come in, then 5-10 minutes to the second stage, then another 10 or so to the front of main.  Makes it hard work to go from main to third (or third to main) on a hot busy day.

The distance is not big but it's more a matter of organization and people. The show on one stage starts suddenly when the other show is finished and it's impossible to get a good spot on every show.

For an example, last year's sunday had Foals (Grande) than Bonobo (Cascade) than The Strokes (Grande) and almost everyone took a spot for Foals and stayed there for Strokes. Bonobo played in front an almost empty field and walking from/to the Grande Scene during that evening was really hard.

Interesting. And those waiting for the strokes were able to hear, see the Bonobo show?

In other words, can I wait for 1 act and still get a glimpse from the other?

I don't think so. All the stages are far enough (and separated by trees, stands, people...) to don't have soundbleeding and if you were together with 40k persons waiting for The Strokes I'm sure you wouldn't understand that much about Bonobo's set.

It's a very nice festival, but every day you better choose the 3-4 shows you want to attend more and enjoy them. Anything more is a bonus (like half shows from a certain distance)

You're probably right. My festivals experience is usually more... hectic. 6-8 shows a day at RW for example. Guess it's a different experience.

Do you have any idea when should we expect the timetable? I see that last year it was published much earlier

Mine too. It's a very nice festival but definitely if you want to get a good spot at an evening main stage show, you have to miss the previous ones on the other stages. (Anyways, I attended to Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Cascade from a good position and then run to The Chemical Brothers being far from the Grande Scene, but visual and audio by The Chems were amazing also from long distance, so I enjoyed their show too).

If I remember correctly, they released the timetables in early July last year. Don't remember the date but it surely was more than one month before the festival took place.
