Have to say I looked at the Boowntown live videos from people there and it's as far away from what I'd ever go to. I know it can be said social media etc but I tagged a friend who's been 3/4 times straight and he said it's about accurate.

Drugs fest with everyone off their tits on day 1. Girls jumping into guys tents after a 'vibe' and too many lines etc etc actually seeming proud to announce that on camera going out broadly. The lineup to be honest is very rarely taste, probably the polar opposite. I am also informed the amount of D&B was mad this year and that along with dubstep and current Rap/Grime is my worst nightmare.

Out of interest, what do you look for in a festival?

Apart from Glastonbury, I'm primarily rock/punk rock/punk pop I guess hence attending Slam Dunk usually. Some indie, even just some afternoon feel good pop tunes. Can't go wrong with a bit of cheese and I'm liking the odd 90s revival festivals as was into my clubland a lot when younger.

I like lasers etc and visuals but I don't want a Shangri-la constantly, it's nice for something to escape to here and there. But grime, d&b, dubstep and a lot of todays rap is not for me.

Thinking back to this I've been surprised by how blatant the drugs I've seen on my social media has been, even from well known names.

Like this from vice: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJsyj5t7/

I knew Boomtown was all about drugs so it's not a shock. I know of plenty who go on here but also plenty who like to indulge on here.

Friends of mine go and I know they do it. I don't mind it happening to a point but not in my face 24/7.

Tbh I don’t do drugs and had a blast. Do drink a lot but saw no more trouble than I would expect to at glasto

I think it's just that at Glastonbury there's sort of a honour code that you don't really speak about what goes on down in the south east corner and just pretend everyone's drinking.

This seems way more explicit about ketamine usage.

Tbh I don’t think people on ket exactly cause any trouble, they are just spaced out and confused. It’s the guys on coke that are the problem

Do you like the music itself though?

Not at all, I'm well aware what goes on in the south east corner. I was in the salon carousel this year and I'd be shocked if all of them weren't on something. I'm just either very tired by the nights end or it just isn't my thing for the most part.

I meant on social media.

If you haven't been it is a bit lazy to say Boomtown is 'all about drugs'. Maybe more hedonistic than Glasto but only because that has become massive and over-commercialised, and the average age is a bit higher.

I've been to both two times each and I wouldn't say it is in your face at Boom any more than it is at Glasto. Sure, if you spend all day at the big DnB stage you'll see it, but you would have the same in Silver Hayes/SE Corner.

Granted there isn't quite the spread of stages but you could definitely do Boomtown without venturing over to the Origin/Area 404 side where it's a bit more lively.

A bit confused why the conversation here is why someone who wouldn’t like the festival isn’t going to come. Big news that.

Looking to next year, do we think Prodigy are nailed considering the pull out?

The wording from the Instagram post when Prodigy pulled out/C&S replaced them 100% suggested they would be there next year. Said something like 'we look forward to them playing in 2024'.

Well that’s pretty ideal. I haven’t seen them since 2015 and they’re one of the few acts that would pull me to an Origin headline slot.

correction: I’ve just read that they’ll play Grand Central. Origin is clearly just not meant for me.

In fairness I am taking it from multiple people I, not only know who've been, but do them as well. The lineup would have to majorly change as well for me to be bothered and given it sells well what it does I don't see it.

The Prodigy returning to play Boomtown would be a safe bet.

What's the likelihood of Fred Again at Chapter 3?

How do you think it would go down?

he's really not my usual cup of tea at all but was dragged to see him @ Glasto and loved it with the sun going down.  A great atmosphere too.  I've become slightly obsessed with SOME of his tracks, so catchy.

I actually feel like the chance might have gone now. Unless there's more budget to play with next year - is he too big for BT?

This. There is a few acts that BT have been close to booking previously, that have now priced themselves out of performing, and I would think that Fred is one of those. Obviously, you can never say never, but can imagine he'll be getting paid big bucks for the foreseeable, and BT aren't really ones to do that.

I know you know people within but is that speculation or certainty.  Care to elaborate on some other potential names you feel have priced themselves out.  Just for fun.

I have no idea what sort of figures these guys charge in that genre but It's not like he has a whole band to fork out for.

No one is too big if they WANT to do it.  crosses fingers

Definitely not underground. He's doing three nights at Ally Pally in September but probably has the following now to sell out Wembley Arena or The o2 a couple of times over. Tickets for his Ally Pally dates literally sold out in seconds.

Just now, On The Blend said:

I mean, some people are simply too big. I'm no expert but it feels like the days of booking Gorillaz are gone.

I think just the new layout alone confirms this. There isn't the space down in the bowl for an act like Gorillaz or some of the other big names that were at Lions Den before. When Prodigy headline Grand Central next year they will have to put a big DJ name on Origin or it would overcrowd quite easily I reckon.

I don’t know Fred is one of them, but I’ve seen it before with a few other acts where they have a massive summer and their price is hiked and Boomtown deem it not cost effective. Fred might want to play the festival, or someone he knows might tell him how great it is, and that might make it workable, but otherwise I think Fred will be too expensive now.

in terms of a name that Boomtown nearly booked before they had a “golden” summer and price skyrocketed, one of them subbed Glastonbury this summer……

Would it have been a juicy booking?

Thanks. I honestly would never have worked it out without this clue.
would I see her at Boomtown, heck yes. MainStage glasto, nah. Think I was getting prepared for a big night starting with leftfield.
