Skip that page, sorry, drunk.

I stand by my first choice. Doubts abound.

"No" would have done.

I'm fickle on these things.

I do have a favourite Beatles song though. Despite Lennon being easily my favourite Beatles, I think their best song is actually Penny Lane.

And in a sign that Super Hans is right about "people", the Penny Lane/I Am The Walrus double A was the only single to not go to No.1 other than those right at the start and end of their career.

And the way he uses key changes is ingenious - like a hill that goes upwards in both directions. When it moves to the chorus, the key goes down, but the notes jump up to the next octave, so the move to the chorus gives a boost of energy. Then when returning to the verse, there's an upwards key change, which gives another boost of energy.

And the horns and backing vocals and sound effects and fourth-wall breaking lyrics and...

It's good. There's a lot going on, but it never feels like muso tricks are being applied for the sake of it - it's just catchy as hell.

You mean Strawberry Fields Forever, not I Am The Walrus,

🤓

Yes, I do! Duh.

I Am The Walrus was a b-side wasn't it? The selection of which was probably the trigger for Lennon disengaging from the production heavy approach and arguably a turning point towards the band splitting up!

So, yeah, not sure how I got that mixed up.

Not sure about my favourite Fabs song (in truth I probably don’t have one of those either) but it’s certainly up there. I don’t understand why Macca rarely plays it these days - you’d think it’d be up there with Eleanor Rigby and the rest of the pretty much ever-presents. Perhaps it doesn’t work live now.

It certainly sounded pretty shit in 2004 with the cheap keyboard sounds.
