fatyeti24
I've only been a distant listener to these over the years; they seem to pop up in my musical circles, so to speak, but I've never dived in (with the exception of All Things to All Men which has been a regular for a decade or more). I have never seen them but did notice they played nice theatres last year. Any ideas what to expect from them, where they might play and if their stuff translates well in an open field? They are definitely nudging the must see category for me, all things being equal.
The Red Telephone
All Things To All Men is a stone-cold classic. Still hoping we get Roots somewhere over the weekend! Edited March 31, 2017 by The Red Telephone
Twisted Melon
They would be well suited as a headliner at The Park
Chawk
I used to listen to Ma Fluer a lot when I was at collage, and thought it was really good. But then I heard to To Build a Home the other day and found it kind of annoying, like a bit pretentious. I'll give the album another go soon anyway, and I'd say listen to it if your thinking of seeing them. I was about to say that it will be the kind of set where most people are anticipating To Build a Home, but then according to this latest setlist they didn't even play it. http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-cinematic-orchestra/2017/a2-saint-petersburg-russia-53f99f1d.html
rikkirascal
I've seen them quite a few times. So great live. Always wanted to see them at Glasto. I think they've been in the past though? I think they'd go down well on the Glade. Or park. Edited March 31, 2017 by rikkirascal
Matt - Ed Banger Records
They're headlining Blissfields which I'm going to a couple of weeks after Glastonbury, not sure what to expect from a live show? Any ideas how the tracks translate live?
rubenz
Seen them at colston hall in Bristol recently. Was good in parts but too many jazz solo/ loop pedal w*nkathons for my taste. Suited a seated venue really so maybe park would be a good shout.
the wonderwhy
They're confirmed as Sunday. I agree with Park headline, I'm struggling to see them anywhere else really, suppose they could be evening JP. 15 hours ago, Chawk said: I uI was about to say that it will be the kind of set where most people are anticipating To Build a Home, but then according to this latest setlist they didn't even play it. http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-cinematic-orchestra/2017/a2-saint-petersburg-russia-53f99f1d.html I think that might just be a mistake as it's their second most common song according to the statistics
No Cars Go
Could these not do an early morning pyramid set?
pastorofmuppets
I still can't see Laura Marling doing anything other than Park headline on Sunday. I'll say Glade headliner or WH sub
discopete
Ma Fleur is a great album however when I saw them at the Hammersmith Apollo I left feeling a little underwhelmed,
big__phil
Are they releasing any new material? I could be wrong, but wasn't their last album a few years back now?
the wonderwhy
I think so, they put a single out late last year. Ma Fleur was the last proper album- so yeah, it's been ten(?) years now
popcornmaster
When I saw them in Manchester in the Albert Hall a few years ago they said they'd have an album out in 2016 but that never came to fruition. Incidentally I found them amazing live. I see them ideally headlining Park or Pre-Bonobo on West Holt.
Jugtanion
Pre-Bonobo is a good shout - but funny how things go; they've been the jewell in the Ninja Tune crown for well over a decade. Live, they are INCREDIBLE. Have been a favourite of mine since I listened to Everyday in about 2004, one of my fave albums of all time. Technically, they can't be beaten. If anyone sees a better drummer than Luke Flowers all festival, that drummer will be a drummer worth watching at worthy.
Jugtanion
Ps - Ma Fleur is great, but for anyone reading this, give a few listens to Man With A Movie Camera. And if you've got loads of time, watch the silent film which the track takes its name from. The film is from about 1922 by a guy called Dziga Vertov (translated to 'spinning top' - the Ukrainians thought he was mad) and TCO did a soundtrack to it, played live at the Porto capital of culture in about 2004, to a massive standing ovation. Music needs more of these guys.
