In what respect mate?

Are you implying that Parklife is free from the patriarchy? It was a weird thing to say, are people at Glastonbury not there to have a good time? Fair enough your point was that it has its merits, but " You would never ever get a womens only part at the Parklife and I think thats a good thing" is an odd statement.

I will pull you up on that Woffy. Parklife gets a rough time on here and rightly so as there has been violent episodes there that have been both shocking and disgusting.

Yet Parklife is far, far more diverse and multicultural than Glastonbury is, in regards to the people that attend. There is a great mish mash of all different types of people, who in the most part are just there to enjoy themselves. That is in stark contrast to Glastonbury where it is a predominantly white crowd.

You would never ever get a womens only part at the Parklife and I think thats a good thing. Everyone is there together to have a good time.

Now you can criticise the music and the few dickheads who have given Parklife a bad name, but one thing you can't do is stereotype the crowd as it is far more diverse than Glastonbury.

Whist I agree that Glastonbury is far to white (but have no experience of parklife) you need to keep in mind that your experience in relation to the 'equality' of the festival is (if your profile is correct) very much from a mans experience, keep in mind that it's been said in this thread already that women often feel uncomfortable raising issues of sexual assault that they feel are rather 'minor' but a great deal of women are often made to feel extremely uncomfortable due to behaviour of men that many dismiss as being acceptable. I'm not suggesting that you engage or condone this type of behaviour but I think frequently we as men don't fully appreciate or understand the extent to which women this kind of behaviour impacts upon all women's lives.

Bloody patriarchy ruining music festivals *shakes fist*.

I personally think it's an absolute disgrace that festivals are allowed to be held were women are forced to stand in the same field as men if they are wanting to see the same act. Why dont festival organisers realise how damaging it can be to a woman if they have to come within 15 feet of a man? They could be traumatised for life.

Everyone is there at Glastonbury to have a good time, no one is saying they are not.

There are big differences between the Glastonbury crowd and the Parklife crowd. Someone said to me before I went to Glastonbury that it was just full of middle class white people, all of their heads on drugs and who refuse to grow up. Now they were right about the white people and I got the impression people were generally more prosperous than those from the environment I come from. That is not an issue for me, I had a right laugh mixing with the posh uns. You have to appreciate  though that issues affecting the working class in north west England are a bit different than those encountered by the more affluent burghs of the UK. Where I live there is great equality, most people are on the minimum wage or there abouts, thats if they have a job. Where as Glastonbury has a great political history, so rightly goes about highlighting issues that do affect us all, Parklife is pure escapism. A lot of the people there want to forget about the every day struggle of life for one day. Thats why imo there will never be a womens only section at Parklife.

Now I appreciate that I have generalised there a little, but hopefully you will understand the point I am trying to make.

I have absolutely no issue with Glastonbury highlighting issues and fair play to all the sisters who want to chill together in their section. If a few ladies want to spend some time together without men on their case then good for them.

I understand everything you said up  until "Thats why imo there will never be a womens only section at Parklife. " That may sound flippant, but I'm really struggling to see what connection you're drawing between the two. Do you  mean there will never be a women's only section because there would never be a need, or because it's very existence is political, so not escapist enough? I'm not quite following you.

The latter presumably.

Not really the only thing I disagree with in easty's post mind.

See it's this bit that provoked my "sheltered" comment. It's really ignorant to pass off sexism as a middle class problem, that viewpoint comes from a position of privilege and is damaging.

I think it is a mixture of both mate. Clearly issues such as domestic violence, rape and so on affect all women, regardless of their social environment. They are not issues to be taken lightly and steps do need taking to highlight the problems and show women there is help available.

At somewhere like Parklife though, it is an entirely different climate to Glastonbury. People use it as an escape from the rigours of day to day life. They go to party and enjoy themselves. There is no political emphasis there.

You never know mate, I may be well wide of the mark. Someone might use such a thing and benefit from it, but unfortunately I doubt it. You know what it is like round here In places like inner city Manchester, Salford and Liverpool, life can be difficult enough as it is. People need that respite from the often harsh realities of life.

This will kind of sum it up well. When Jeremy Corbyn does his talk at Glastonbury, in all probability he will speak to a bumper crowd. At Parklife he would speak to a pretty much empty tent. Yet you can not get anywhere more of a Labour territory. Thats because people priorities and social environments are totally different at the 2 events.

Fair enough mate. I am jumping out of here now and staying away from the political stuff. It is not my strong point and often what I am trying to get across gets lost in translation.

If anyone wants a pint at the meet up and wants to pull me up on anything I have said then go for it. It is easier trying to speak in person rather than on the net.

II don't really get this kind of attitude. I'm going to Glastonbury to have a great time, to hopefully meet all kinds of different people and would love nothing more than to spend all of the 5 days surrounded by great new friends, no matter what sex they are. However, there are a minority of idiots out there, like I explained in my earlier post, and as a 29 year old girl who is going to Glastonbury alone, despite the protestations of both many of the males and females I know about how it isn't safe and girls shouldn't be wandering around alone in the dark and such like, the existence of such a space, whether I actually use it or not, gives a little peace of mind to those who care about me and that is another reason why I think it's a good thing.

@russycarps should be here telling you it used to be much more diverse before the fence and how he preferred it back in the day ;)

I can certainly say that one of the years that the Happy Mondays played (someone else will have to clarify whether 1990 or 2000), it was pretty rammed and there was a blooming sizable working class proportion.

None of that would make the slightest difference to the subject of this thread though and to be honest I'd say that there are plenty of families and a mixture of sexes now compared to then.

It's a huge site and they can do what they like with an area of it imho.
