EE Power Bar

Last year, EE had a number of venues (they were too big to count as 'stalls') wherein you could swap your depleted power bar for a fully charged one. This seemed like the perfect solution to the phone-charging problem that affects many of us.

Since the last festival, it looks like EE have discontinued their power bars due to safety issues and most (including mine) have been recalled. Does anyone know if these are likely to be resurrected any time soon. Will EE still have their venues? Without the power bars it all seems rather redundant.

Not a clue, BUT you can buy an anker for £20 on amazon, it gives you about 8 full I phone 6 charges! Saves you queueing and wasting precious festival time ;)

If they don't have the power bars again, would they not just revert back to the chill and charge tent they had the previous years?

This seems likely. They have been after all the 'official technology sponsor' of the festival for a few years, so I expect their large presence may well have been contractually locked in since before the power bar crisis.

I'm happy to queue a little to swap out a power bar, but damned if I'm waiting for my phone to charge up in situ. Back to the old school Nokia methinks.

Can second the Anker rec - bought one last year, it'll run my phone for a couple of weeks I think.

Nobody knows for sure whether they'll do it again unless/until they announce something. But given the fairly embarassing abandonment of the "real world scheme", personally I'd work to the assumption that it won't happen. EE (and before them, Orange) have been announcing various gimmicks at Glastonbury for years, and usually it's a fairly cynical attempt to try and get a bit of publicity and then they lose interest once that's happened - in the past they've had WiFi cows, charging wellies, and about 10 more that I've forgotten. The power bar exchange is just about the first one that actually lasted more than a year or went beyond the Festival so it's probably about time they're due a new gimmick.

Aside from all that, there's simply far better options - the various 20,000mah+ chargers on Amazon will cover you for more than the whole festival are better value and save any queues.

Can't emphasise enough how great these are for Glastonbury, why waste time to charge your phone?!?!?!

They're especially handy if you're with the Mrs who has a handy handbag to carry them in :)

I spoke to EE last year and they said they would be getting in touch about the power bars in February but obvioulsy that hasn't happened.

I also use power bank type chargers, I usually taking 2. I only got a power bar because it was free, I never actually used it.

Oops, still got my EE bar.

I've still got two.  Not exploded yet

Publicity stunt or not I found the exchange worked well.  Will be a shame if it doesn't happen this year.

I bought a cheap samsung phone (cost about £12 i think) a couple of years ago. Battery lasts all weekend and I don't have to worry about losing my smart phone.

Set the secretglasto twitter account to send you texts when a post is sent and Bobs Yer Uncle!! Fond memories of showing off my text on the Friday dinner time telling me the Libertines were on in the evening.
