I was on holiday in Devon. Franticly hitting refresh in the wifi hot spot of the caravan park on my mobile (forgot to take my laptop with me). Just then I spy a chap kind of looking as if he was doing the same. So over I go and ask and yep he's trying. at around 09:20 i look and he's on the registration page. so of course my question is "please please please get my ticket too" as I was having no luck and none of my friends looked as if they were getting them. 

 

Imagine my dismay when he politely said. "sorry i'm already getting 6" so whilst seething with jealousy i still kept hitting refresh on my phone. Just then the Glastonbury gods were smiling on me. He tells me "looks like some one has already got our tickets. it's telling me we already have tickets"

 

It's at that moment we are both unsure what to do. so we gently press back on the browser, making sure not to go too far back, and delete the registration numbers entered and enter mine. Now some 5 mins have probably passed since he got to the start of registration, and my thoughts were that they would have probably sold out by now. But on I plod making sure with shaking hands that I enter every detail correctly. I press confirm and by jove I've only gone and got a bloody ticket. 

 

Random chap in Devin Valley I salute you.

 

Only problem is i'm the only one of my usual group that managed to get a ticket. fingers crossed for them in the resale, otherwise i'm gonna be dougy no mates.

Great story - I'm now hoping for an update nine months from now about how you ran into each other in the underground piano bar at 2am Glastonbury Monday morning and shared "war" stories.

 

Fell in love, and lived happily ever after....

Did pressing back and re-doing information work for anywhere else? Each time i clicked proceed with payment my browser would time out, pressing back and re-entering the info didnt help. Got through 3 times, same thing happened. Odd.

It worked for me once... before getting to completion as it kept hanging. After completing I tried to do this for another group but it kept going to holding instead. So I just gave up and started again... got thru again tho eventually with about 10 mins to go...

Nobody knows the full details, but the system basically works as follows.

 

Your browser has a cookie (a small file), which is created when you access Seetickets. This cookie has a unique ID in it, which See use to remember your specific browser instance. Every time you connect, the server can see the session ID stored in the cookie.

 

When you press F5 to refresh the holding page you have a small chance of being allowed to progress to the Add Registrations page. There are probably a few thousand browsers allowed to access the Add Registrations page at any one time. Getting a slot is completely down to luck - you must refresh at exactly the right time, i.e. when a slot becomes available.

 

If/when you get through, the Seetickets server will "remember" that it has let your specific browser progress to the next stage, using the session ID to verify who you are.

 

So, the Seetickets server should keep letting you back to the Add Registrations page until one of the following things happens:

  1. You complete your transaction, at which point the session is invalidated and the server "forgets" who you are.
  2. The server crashes and "forgets" your session ID.
  3. Your session expires. This will happen after a set time - I would guess you have at least 15 minutes or so.

If any of these things happen, you will be sent back to the holding page to compete with everyone else for another "slot" to be let through to the Add Registrations page.

 

So you should be able to try again straight away if your payment fails. Your next refresh should get you straight back to the Add Registrations page. We were in this situation and it took three attempts before the payment actually went through.

 

A few years back Seetickets somehow forgot to configure the server to invalidate the session after you had completed a transaction, so once you had got through once you could just keep going back in to order more tickets. I personally ordered about 20 tickets for friends of friends, and some helpful people on this forum ordered a lot more than that.

I already had my tickets so wasn't a major issue for me, but my friends werent happy at all. I kept trying to force to payment through and it was having none of it. Then I got through on my second laptop and the same thing happened again. I usually have more luck in the resale since less people are hammering the site.

 

Another thing that seemed to change this year was that incognito windows didnt work. In previous years incognito windows worked as individual sessions. This year once 1 screen got through they all got through. So maybe that was messing me up too. That didnt seem to be the case in the coach sale though, as i purchased multiple tickets on various incognito browsers.

I think I remember that the year was 2010. I ordered tickets in the morning, went back to bed, they were still on sale in the afternoon, people were saying that you could just log on and get more tickets so I went on and got tickets for my Dad and Sister.

Yeah I kept getting stuck this year after confirming the names of people I wanted to buy for, so kept clicking the back & forwards buttons until it went through - had to click the pay now button a couple of times as well.

 

Last year I let it sit there, too scared to refresh or touch it once I'd put my card details in, hoping it was processing very slowly, & I missed out in the main sale, so this year I was brave & used the back button.  It worked for me this year but probably down to luck more than anything.
