They have sold out of tickets though apparently

Tickets still available on Boomtown site - Tier1 &2 (cheaper earlybird tickets) sold out, Tier 3 £155 still available as far as I can tell

I am thinking about going to Festival No 6. Anyone been? I read somewhere that they are Ott on drugs though. Anyone got any experience of it?

I've been to No 6 the last 2 years and loved it. For me it's more of a daytime festival with nothing going on after 2/3am, and some of the daytime stuff being better than the headliners imo. If the weather's good, which it was last year, there's loads to see - the beautiful Portmeirion village, the beach (you can swim in the sea/paddleboard) and the stages in the woods (esp. the Dogon Village) and there's quite a lot of non-musical stuff like comedy, talks, a big carnival etc.

On the subject of drugs we went through a separate guest entrance on way in so our bags weren't searched. The main queue might have been searched but didn't see dogs. One thing that was quite off-putting was having security patrol the dance tents (they had torches on them and were getting right into the crowd). It was the kind of thing you'd never see at Glasto and just felt heavy handed. To be fair, I only saw this on Sunday...seems to be loads more security on the Sunday than the other days...possibly because of day tickets, not sure. Anyway, don't let it put you off. It's definitely the best festival I've been to other than Glastonbury and I prefer it to Bestival now (the 2 are on the same weekend). Sorry for the essay! Would be interested to hear what others on here think of it.

Splendour In The Grass - Byron Bay, Australia... Pretty comparable however on a smaller scale.. Beautiful outdoor setting in the eastern coast parklands, massive natural amphitheater for main stage. Usually has a decent lineup, this year is a bit lax but previous 4-5 years were epic. Always last weekend of July :)

Latitude gets my vote also, atmosphere wise it's definitely the most similar to Glastonbury that i've been to. Not just about the music, laid back day time with a real party atmosphere at night till around 3am, beautiful setting around the lake and in the woods. Glastonbury blues have hit me real hard this year after having an absolute ball, everything just went perfectly so i need Latitude to pick me back up.

Standon Calling is also a nice festival if you're after something a little smaller, and on the plus side they have a swimming pool.

How small is festival no6 I want to go to this but I know my boss is going! Don't want to bump into him when I'm there

I'm not too sure in terms of people...I think maybe around 5000. It's pretty spaced out - woods, village, beach, main arena and it does feel pretty busy so you might be ok...but chances are if there's one person you don't want to see you'll bump into them when you're spangled.

Exactly and knowing I could see him would probably put a downer on it for me!

Can someone kindly give me a run-down of what Green Man is like? The line-up is always right up my alley. Thus I have this magical idea that it's also the most wonderful festival?

Ie. how big, what beer, how late does it go, what else is there apart from the tunes?

Anybody going Latitude?

Went for a number of years when I was younger, but after going to Glastonbury other festivals for a few  years I am making a return. Lineup looks superb, and the map looks oh so small and easy to walk around, and looking forward to being able to sleep for more than 3 hours a morning

It's excellent, I go every year.

Stunning site, surrounded by mountains. Main stage is big, also a large tented stage and a couple of smaller outdoor ones. Loads of different quality beers and ciders, 24 he license and music goes on late, about 3am. Genuinely nice chilled out crowd. Fiver in taxi to crickhowell which has a couple of really good pubs.

Can't recommend it enough, great festival.

I have a couple of volunteer places available for Latitude - if you want more details drop me a pm!

After Glastonbury the size and pace of Latitude is a nice contrast, lots going on aside from the music, also End of the Road is a great smaller festival  :good:

Out of the others I've been to I'd recommend Truck - can take what you want into the 'arena'. Pretty chilled, and tiny compared to Glastonbury.

Latitude also good, beautiful setting and a decent line-up this year (as usual). Still really easy to get around compared to Glastonbury. I went in the fallow year, I'd like to go again.

I've never been but have heard great things about Shambala. Fairly local to me so I'll give it a go next year.

I would like to add Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally, County Laois, Ireland.  A more Irish and Celtic type of Bestival, Rave in the Woods, Salty Dog Stage, Trenchtown, Body & Soul Village serve as Electric Picnic's Ambient Forest, there are literary and spoken word areas, holistic areas and big areas like Green Crafts and Earth Spirit, numerous marquees with a mixture of rock and electronic acts, theatre, an abundance of varied food stalls with mouthwatering cuisine, circus and carnival, comedy tent.  Trailer Park area, the Jerry Fish and the Mudbug tent as well as the main stage and other large marquees and loads of other sights and distractions.

They have increased capacity to 50,000 alright, but a lot of it is unchanged, I presume they will expand some areas to accommodate the extra capacity, an increase of 18,500 in the last two years, but you can't argue with the line up which is pretty decent and we are due an update on the line up after the Longitude festival next weekend.

I don't think I'm gonna go to Bestival now due to money and we're thinking of giving our mate who's off to China for a year a send off with a day ticket at Leeds so that's our plan. At least I'll have money for PSB and Sleaford Mods later this year. GO FIGURE!

Someone wake me up when I have a job and can afford to do more festivals. Having no money despite working 8-4 Monday to Friday can be well shit.

This is the first year since I've been going that Bestival doesn't clash with footy qualifiers. My mate is a big Northern Ireland fan, home and away (whilst living in Southampton), and he's never been able to go before because of going to football. You seem like you follow Wales to the same extent, so unless besti stays at the second weekend in Sept like this year, you might not get too many chances to go (unless you sack off the football)

Argh, I wanna go to Bestival so badly!

Have you checked the Megatrain? Long shot but they do a service from London to Portsmouth, so there might be something from your neck of the woods. Worth a look!

Or check coaches or trains to Southampton.

Might be able to get a cheap deal there if you can't get to p*rtsm**th. I'll probably be going as foot passenger on the ferry from Southampton cos the car prices are steep! If you go via soton, could try and meet up early for a beer on the ferry
