The Courteeners

I like them, it's generic, indie by numbers but it's good fun live. As above headlinging JP or 3rd down on other would be about right for them. If rumours are to be believe and one of the headliners are as "pop" as rumoured, i.e Taylor Swift etc then having the Courteeners headling JP at the same time will keep the indie fans happy.

Started off great with St Jude, yeah a bit indie by numbers but still enjoyable... Last two albums have been shocking though.

Ha im the other way round, i like the st jude stuff live but cant listen to it as an album anymore apart from the more acoustic tracks, and like the last two loads! Falcon is a weird one, loved it when it came out but it hasn't aged well for me.

I love them.

But i think they are definitely a Northern Clique, and do not appeal to the South at all (Minor Generalisation), hence the large unpopularity on here.

Answer to your question? I'd be extremely surprised if they aren't, no real demographic except for Northern UK, so when they play festivals, they hammer festivals in the UK e.g. Isle of Wight, T in the Park, V Festival and then the Foreign festivals dominated by UK residents e.g. Ibiza Rocks and Benicassim.

Could they headline the JPT? I reckon so, whether they see otherwise, i'm not sure. But high up on Other or JPT headliner for me.

Yeah - pretty sure it's a northern thing to be honest - can't stand them myself but I have a group of mates who absolutely love them - difficult to gauge their overall popularity I think, they can put on huge outdoor shows in Manchester but not sure if that translates around the UK. Would see them high up JPT or mid-Other - but that could very well just be my own prejudice playing a part there.

For clarification, I am a northerner, I live in Manchester, and I think they're shite.

Oh my God, there's two of us!

I literally don't know a single person who dislikes them, even people with excellent taste. All hope died when my mate who only really likes electronic stuff said "Well, you've got to like them a bit, haven't you? Otherwise it's just snobbery, they're not geniuses, but they make formidable rock tunes, like our generation's Weezer". Has everybody lost their damn minds!?

The subbed the JP in 2013 - and I have never seen it as empty! They are cracking live. I'll be at Heaton Park come June 5th!

That was poor scheduling - the crossover with the start of arctic monkeys was a very strange one, I love them and even I left halfway to get to the pyramid stage. Many will have just not bothered, and after fighting my way through the crowd to my friends i wished i hadnt too. To be fair i had tickets to see them a 2 minute walk from my flat in castlefield the week after but still

I agree, but eve given that it was startlingly empty! I think there was as many people there for Darlia at 11am on the Sunday!!!

You heading to Heaton Park? Castlefield wa sa bit blurry for me!

Yep both looking forward to it and slightly apprehensive as its going to be very rough. I hated the atmosphere at castlefield (Saturday), felt like you could get battered at any moment. I'm used to an element of that going to so many gigs round here and loads of courteeners gigs but that took it to another level. i expect Heaton Park to be the same, though that all melts away when the band comes on.

I hope the bar situation is better than it was for stone roses, otherwise no drinks after like 7 without a 90 minute queue!
