I'm a bit out of touch with the current scene, but was surprised they were 3rd down a few years back. Have they had much success beyond Down With The Sickness and that other hit I can't remember the name of?

Believe is probably their best album. I didn't realize the most recent albums did so well but in reality, after Ten Thousand Fists it all went a bit cheesy and stale.

Ha

I really wish it would come back, love the set up and it's had good line ups for my taste, plus it's only 30min away from me.  It's just the sporadic nature of it taking place hasn't filled me with confidence.  If Download is holding off announcing, then now is time to strike with a Soni announcement.  If they leave it too late or can't get a line up together, then the reputation compounds.

If they had anything dude, we'd at least know the 1st band by now. It tells you a lot that of Download haven't quite got a 3rd nailed down yet that there isn't much chance.

How would we. We don't even know the 1st band of Download, Reading, Glasto etc are they all cancelled too?

Perhaps Download had a band in advanced discussions and it fell through? or perhaps another bans came up and they told the other band to wait whilst they negotiate with another.

True we don't have any hard facts about any of them.....

However....based on Soni only happening once over the last 4 years, we can speculate that the odds aren't in its favour.  No ill-will against the fest, just can't see anything to suggest otherwise.  DL, V, R/L, etc have happened for each of those last 4 years and have a reputation to get bands, where Soni will struggle.

How did you arrive at this? If Soni announced their first headliner before they were sure they had three, that'd be a bit daft. Besides, 2014 was announced a month after Download's trio were confirmed.

Plus if Download didn't have three headliners yet, you'd think it was still early enough for Sonisphere to have a fighting chance at gathering headliners. I don't think it'll go ahead but I don't believe that they'll have given up already either.

any UK festival booking Nickelback to headline would be a huge mistake. they have a huge fanbase and their shows sell well, but at a festival full of non-fans, they'd get an endless shower of bottles hurled their way. they've never done a UK festival before and there must be a reason for that

I don't think Download would be a festival full of non-fans though; I think they'd naturally be polarising but they'd go down fine. I don't recall them doing any European festivals in recent years and they only did one in the UK (V Festival 2002!) so I don't see it as being particularly likely that they'll be plotting a festival tour.

I hate nickelback and would be hugely disappointed if they took a headline slot

They won't be, it was only the other week metalicbear was all maybe Soni have Maiden. He hasn't helped himself as if that's the best Download could do then Soni have nothing.

There is two certs you'd think and that's just logical thinking, the 3rd is up for debate but SOAD for me, a lot of the same from others though.

Who are your certs though?

AC has stated that they are still working on their 3rd headliner.

He has also said that Download France could have different headliners to Donington.

He has also said that he hasn't started work on the undercard as the headliners are priority. Which is the opposite of Sonisphere whereby quite a few low card bands are starting to be heavily rumoured.

These are the headliners I've heard for around Europe -

Rock am Ring - SOAD - Muse - ???

SOAD have been rumoured for Download for quite a while now, Muse played Download this year.

Hellfest - Def Leppard - Bon Jovi - Black Sabbath

Def Leppard have been rumoured for Sonisphere for over a year.

The general feeling in Europe is that Maiden have agreed to play all DEAG promoted events, whether that includes Sonisphere I'm not sure as technically they're a partner.

Glastonbury - Foo Fighters - ??? - ???

Pinkpop - Foo Fighters - ??? - ???

David Gilmour is apparently playing a Stadium in France in July. As are AC/DC in June.

I just can't see it happening. Copping obviously likes them, but I think if they were going to book him, they'd have done so by this point.

They've been playing on Radio 1 all this week, think they have a new album out, from what I've heard on the radio it sound pretty heavy, one of the DJ's mentioned them being here next Summer for festivals and gigs.

    • Yeah exactly, the shock moments, group layouts, etc all end up playing out differently once you get into the tournament. However you tweak it, you don't predict shocks.
    • I could see Muse doing BST, Lytham Festival and the one in Cardiff next year.
