Flippin' buggerin' bloody nora!

I can't believe the clarity of that frickin' camera!!!

There's a tiny bit of me that almost doesn't want to look; that wants to keep special and secret the evolution of my Glastonbury.

As you all know, I have digested, endlessly, just about all and any GF material I can get my hands on. I've looked at ground shots, aerial shots, short videos, long videos, films, blogs, vlogs, clogs.

So, despite being a virgin, I feel like I 'know' the festival just about as well as I can. I have a good feel for the relative geography of most stuff - I reckon I could do a pretty accurate representation of the site map from memory! I think that I 'understand' much of the general stuff that gives each area its personality.

BUT...there is something indescribable to me about walking through the gates of a festival new to you for the very first time. It's a feeling that I find hard to put into words. I do know that its one of the happiest feelings that I have in my life, and I can still remember that feeling at my first Green Man, Latitude, End of the Road. I also know that the Glastonbury version will be quite something again, and likely something that has no genuine comparison in the world.

SO...I just have a little corner of me that doesn't want to do anything to detract from that moment. I'm only sorry that I won't be able to share it with any of you guys (as I'm pretty certain none of you are on my coach and, with respect, I ain't waiting at the gate for you!), or indeed my dear, dear festival buddy Phil. I really wish he could share this with me, and meet you all too.

So, do I watch Glastocam as my festival grows and develops over the next six weeks...?

Who the feck am I kidding?! With my current obsession levels, I'll likely open the page on Child 1's laptop and watch it when I'm in the bath!

But there's a little bit of me that might try to keep away as much as I can.

Six weeks, lovely peeps, six weeks...

Ben

Go ahead and watch the webcam, Ben. It still won't prepare you for when you get there! Wish we could see your face when you walk in! Are you planning to do the 'top of the hill' walk?

Bugger. So, despite proclaiming my incalculable homework, I am not certain that I know exactly what you're asking, but I think I do...

So, is that, am I going to walk all the way to the top of the hill behind The Park but not turn around until I get to the top and can see the whole festival spread out before me (on a glorious, sunny Wednesday lunchtime, obviously)?

That's the badger!

I think it would be rather rude not to, Mr G.

Nailed on.

After setting up and meeting some people in camp, I hope to go on a damn good massive mooch, including getting to The Park, which I see as one of my natural homes at GF, and thence up said hill for a (likely slightly teary) bloody good look!

I so wish I was you, nothing can prepare you for the wonders that await you. How I wish to be a speck of dust on your shoulder so I can see your face when you experience the wonders you will see.

I promise to bore you all with inexhaustible tales of how amazing everything is/was both at, and after, the festival...

We will be walking around the back and past the Pyramid right to left around 0930 on sunday morning, we shall wave and expect you all to be waving back.

One thing that doesn't show up too well because of the angle is the trackway laid across the top of Pennards, you can see a bit but there is much more than that.

You think you know your way around.

You have no idea at all, not even in the slightest - really you don't.

Can you please ask whoever the person near you is to take a pic of your face when you see the full site for the first time.

Now just hold it there, Matthew!

I never said I knew my way around, you cheeky monkey! I implied that I have a reasonable idea of the relative position of the various major areas on site - i.e. I have a feel for where Silver Hayes is, relative to the Pyramid, The Other etc. Ooooh, you embellish stories like Mrs Ben, you scamp!

I know I'll be as stone cold lost as every other freshman there, but I still have a very clear mental map in my head that will hopefully help me to navigate around a bit better than having no knowledge at all!

Just. Can't Wait.

    • I was following up to pink_triangle's post about what Reform are saying they will do to find money for defence spending.   But with Labour, they may well water down or delay some of the net zero commitments, they may find ways to cut welfare spending with Pat McFadden's welfare review thing, but I don't think it's going to be near enough. They really tied themselves down with the tax commitments in their manifesto, just reversing Hunt's NI cuts would have gone a long way. Under Burnham I think they may try and reform some of the tax system, land taxes and levies etc. Certainly needs reforming. But that might all be after a general election if Labour were to win.  I reckon they will try and do something with fiscal rules to borrow more, and try and persuade markets to go along with them.  (and he's already rowed back on that waspi thing...I think his team and others in Labour had a word).
    • Feels like Leeds getting axed is just a matter of time now, and to be honest, it might be the only way to save Reading. The whole twin-site format just feels proper dated and way too expensive to run nowadays. If they scrapped Leeds and focused entirely on Reading, turning it into a proper London-adjacent day-trip fest for the younger crowd like All Points East or Wireless, it would actually make sense financially. But yeah, for the old-school rock crowd, the R&L era is completely dead and buried.
    • Its the obvious  place to find savings but will Ed Miliband play along? Will Labour MP's finally accept benefits cuts? This is as damaging for Reeves as for Starmer. Its hard to see how either survives. Meanwhile Burnham is bringing up WASPI when there is no chance they'll get anything. He'll have to say something about funding defence.
    • Yeah, I managed 2 at once last year but the setup meant 1 per purchase, my partner had to do her one separately using her code   14th Primavera, bring it on!
    • I’m heading to this but need to leave on the Sat. Does anyone have any experience of getting back to the train station without the shuttle bus running? Seems like it might be tricky
