I have to say I got quite a bit of racist abuse being Irish when I lived in the UK. Got a tirade of verbal abuse in a pub in chester from a complete stranger. She thought I sounded northern and when I said I'm Irish she launched into abuse calling me a terrorist and to fuck off back to my own country.

It really upset me at the time but to be honest I feel really sorry for her and her sad little world.

In a nutshell don't let the bastards grind you down. They live in a very sad mind space.

Sad and annoying. I get pedantic*, and tell those people** that they need to go back to Germany, France and Scandinavia if they really want people back in their own country, since that's where 'we' got invaded from. I'm on a sticky wicket here about Yorkshire being the best, since I'm an immigrant too, if you track back my family to the 13th century. Left-of-centre Pedantry over. NFR NFC y'all.

pentura, my brain has been melting for about 2 weeks now, as I'm on new work and am getting to grips with it all. How you memorise things and then use it in exams is beyond me currently. On the plus front, I've ticked off 4 things on my to do list. :-)

*reading far too much Bernard Cornwell and other early UK historical novels.

**being non-violent stops a more appropriate action

I'll say it in the safety of this thread but........................

if people actually took the time to read the parties manifestos they would learn an awful lot of what parties really stand for.

Sadly most do not have the time so reply on the media and what bits they show.

Just one example, a person locally was going to vote Ukrap - then I gave them 3 pages printed on their manifesto. They were shocked.

Mr G, of course you meant gin!!

Babs- have you seen the harlequin duck? I saw it on Springwatch recently. Or winterwatch, one of those anyway. I love that show!

Hi Lucy, I've seen it a few times, I regularly walk along the river with the dogs. I've met so many folk from all over the uk, and a few from Europe who've come to see it :) I like springwatch too xx
