The Hunter Exchange

Did anyone see this last year? Hunter wellies took over a house just off of the M5 from memory and offered an exchange of your old wellies for a shiny new pair of Hunters.

Foolishly, I didn't stop. Could do with a new pair this year so am hoping they're pulling a similar stunt. Did anyone see this/exchange their wellies?

Yeah I saw this too - about a second after the turning lol! The sign said any wellies exchanged for Hunters, so am tempted to put my worst pair in the boot just in case they're there again ;)

Screw that - they're HORRIBLE wellies

Take this from someone who can end up working weeks at a time in wellies - they are *not* good. They may come in pretty colours but we wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. They feel nice and shoe-ish at first but are hard on your feet and crack and leak quickly

Classic Dunlop wellies are incredibly durable and designed for heavy use. Get those, use a nice padded insole and decent socks. Roll down the top to avoid welly rub - i've got a pair that's been around almost a decade

Alternatively get the neoprene topped type e.g. Stillwater or Muckboots for a premium option. I have a pair of Stillwater boots and with the soft top you get no welly rub and they're wonderfully snug

I can't tell you how sad it makes me seeing Hunters at Glastonbury. The only place I usually see them is outside our nouveau-riche client's front doors in a nice set for the family utterly mud-free *shudder* company of 25, 2 posh fools got them and they wore out and had to replace them with our standard issue, never a problem since

That happened to me when I wore a new pair of unbroken in Doc Martens one year. It was absolute agony getting around the site. I was nearly in tears by the Sunday. Never again. Decent footwear is paramount at Glastonbury, in my opinion.

Yeah it was almost unbearable at times, especially when you're at the front of a stage and you get people stepping on your heel for the entire set!

Last year I wore a pair of old vans and wore them throughout the entire festival. Had no problems with them, will probably wear them again this year and bring some wellies along in case 05 happens all over again..

Last year I wore a pair of Gola canvas pumps all of Glasto, but had my 14 yr old doc martens with me (and wellies) just in case.

I always look at Hunters, cos yes they look good (love the gold glittery ones) but wouldn't pay the price and hear varied reviews.

If they were handed out free - I'd take a pair but they'd be used for non-festival light use only!

Doc Martens are incredibly decent footwear, it's just a well known fact that you need to break them in first. My dad has been wearing the same pair of DMs for about 10 years, no problems. I've had a pair for a couple of years now and they get worn around fire/explosives and in very muddy conditions, not a single issue. They are worth every penny if you have reason to need such sturdy shoes.

Mate texted me about this *just* before I set off....dashed back in the house, grabbed the oldest, mankiest pair I had and swapped them for some nice shiny Hunters which I promptly flogged unused when I got back home. Trusty Dunlops were used at Glastonbury.

Good marketing. A few years ago they handed out freebies to the celebs and the media took photos and the sheep followed. Because celebs really know their shit ya

Are they more suited to the female foot as most girls I know love them and say they are far more comfy than any others? Or are they just more susceptible to marketing ;-)

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
