Every year we've camped, we've camped in Pennards. The only 'accusation' I agree with is that it's busy. Never had any problem at all.

People sometimes give the impression that different campsites have somehow formed their own subcultures, that they are their own semi-autonomous micro-states and have varying degrees of entrance criteria based on social status and noise liability.

This isn't the case. Yes, it is true that Pennards is a very popular area where lots of younger people do head because it is nearest the SE corner and not far from the park, stone circle, greenfields etc.

But mostly, the campsites are just where people happen to pitch up to. Don't over stress about it. You'll have a great time wherever you whack your tent down, honest.

I've camped in Pennards for years and never had any problems - always found it friendly and a good location. That being said, over the last 2/3 years it's filled up REALLY quickly, making it all a bit too much like hard work pitching up there. Ended up in Lower Mead last year (aimed for Big Ground but apparently that also fills up super quickly now!!) but didn't rate it and missed being in Pennards. I'd say give it a go and see what you think!!

We camped in Oxlyers last year mainley becuase it seemed to be the most central camp, watch the other stage/arcadia from your tent in the morning, short walk from silver hayes/pyramid and easy walking distance to Shangri la etc

Had really good neighbours etc but by 6/7 in the morning the field was dead with only our group still going

Camped in Pennards (and Oxlyers) 3 or 4 times each. I think Pennards has a rep because there seems to be a lot of large groups that spend a lot of time back at camp drinking into and through the night so it gets pretty loud. If you are the type that heads back to camp after the headliner for beers at camp with mates then it may suit. If on the other hand you simply use your tent to sleep and spend your waking hours around the festival itself then you are better off further out where it's quieter. (imo)

Oxlyers is great if you spend a lot of time at Other. It's also central so easy to get most places. My favourite field to camp in. (it;s a low lying flat field though so best avoided in really rainy years)

Pennard Hill is just too busy is my only complaint. The people camped there are just like everyone else really. Last time I camped there was 2005 I think, thankfully not in the flooded bit with the poo floating around!

I've never camped there as it seems if you arrive on site after 12 then it's already packed, when I've walked past there though it definitely did remind me of Reading fest though.

I camped in Pennards last year (my first Glastonbury), because three separate friends had recommended it. I liked the location a lot as I really like The Park area and it was nice being close to the Green Fields, not too far from the 'naughty corner' for my son and basically close enough to most places were were spending time for it not to be a big deal to nip back to the tent to pick up beers, grab a jumper, or whatever.

What I didn't like about it was that tents were literally pitched on top of each other, making the task of getting to your tent a complete mission even when you were only a few feet away. I also got woken repeatedly one night (probably about 4am) by some little twats doing laughing gas for hours. It felt as if they were right next to my head and they may well have been!

The busy aspect puts me off going back this year, plus I'm not sure we'll be there early enough to get a pitch as going by car this year (coach last year) and that seems a bit unpredictable. My son is keen to stick with Pennards though so I need to find an area that is some sort of compromise. Not ridiculously far away from the fun, but maybe a teeny bit more spacious (I don't expect an acre of lawn outside my tent!).

Getting in mid-afternoon on the Thursday this year and no idea where we'll be able to get pitched...we love Dairy but highly doubt we'll have any luck there.

I work the event but my friends used to camp in pennards and at the top its one of the best places if the site floods, if you go to enough glastonburys you will see a flood year so I always try to camp high
