Come the end of June, everyone here will be crowing about the Metallica performance and how it broke new ground for the festival. I'm not a fan but I can just tell it's going to have that Glasto sparkle.

I'll be there if they play. Just to see the start. Then i'll be dancing my ass off in a random little tent somewhere. Loved the Black Album, know naff all other than that. I can't justify standing through the rest of their material just to hear them play the tracks of that album. Fully support them doing the Pyramid, just not for me.

I'm baffled at how anyone can listen to Enter Sandman, imagine that on the Pyramid on Saturday night and think it's going to be anything other than amazing. Who cares if they get a packed crowd? That's hardly the arbiter of quality. I'd rather have half the size crowd who're really into it than a huge crowd full of bemused head-shakers. Metallica are hardly metal anyway these days, more heavy rock. They're tame enough to appeal to anyone who's open to experience the energy of hearing an alternative music than they'd normally enjoy because it's Glasto which embellishes everything with a touch of awesome. Anyone who's not open to that is probably at the wrong festival.

For me, I'm desperate for a Pyramid headliner I can be really excited about seeing. Whatever you thought of the Stones lost year they're hard to top and it was great to see them without having to pay their ridiculous ticket prices (and I had a blast)

This year, Arcade Fire, we'll they're okay but a little too pompous for my liking and Kasabian, well they're Verve Lite aren't they?

So one headliner that I could think, **** yeah that's gonna be great, would be welcome. One headliner that's going to have the whole crowd singing without being prompted in that magical Glasto way. So far this year, I can't see it.

(I'm still going to have an amazing time obviously)

i was having a little think to myself yesterday that it's a shame that i'm not a fan of Kasabian as out of all the headliners, they're the ones who headlining Glastonbury obviously means the most to (so it'd be pretty nice to see a band up there really giving it their all), but then i thought, despite it not being quite the same (Glastonbury must be literally the last festival getting ticked off for Metallica), knowing that they've pushed for this to happen over the years (and them probably knowing that it isn't gonna be their usual die-hard fans out there either) i really can't wait to see how Metallica approach this show

maybe they'll just see it as another festival headline performance, but i'd like to think that they're seeing it as the out of the ordinary / kind of special show that it is (for both them and the festival). i'm not expecting any setlist changes (why should they? their setlists are always great anyway) but it'll be pretty interesting

Feel Metallica will go down the same as Gorillaz did in 2010.

Fans of the group will laud the performance.

Those who stay out of curiosity and purely because they're the headliner on the pyramid will leave after a few songs.

I genuinely don't expect them to draw a huge crowd or even if they do can see them losing numerous people after a few songs.

People should think themselves friggin lucky they have a ticket at all! It's cool if a band you like plays but to even be going is in itself a bit friggin brilliant isn't it!? When I walk through those gates I will be doing nothing but smiling as I know just how jammy I've been to get there.

The irony of you starting this thread Matt!!

I agree, people seem to be in a strange sort of denial, all other twitter/facebook people either seem to be completely ignoring the rumour or saying it will never happen.

Strange really strange. Its almost like people have forgotten about the other stages at the festival if they don't happen to enjoy Metellica at all.

    • Yeah the rumour I heard is Glastonbury + Spurs stadium, the guy who posted it seems to be on the ball most of the time as well.   He's also now put one up for Sam fender summer shows
