Goldfrapp

I am really looking forward to seeing Goldfrapp, i just hope they are not on the Sunday night, headline anywhere else on friday and Saturday and i am there, but a clash with Massive Attack would be a nightmare! I saw the live gig at Somerset house below and Wow she is amazing, what a voice. Whilst Tales of us is a very melodic ballad album it harps back to Felt mountain, really good.

  1. Encore:
This is the set list from the tour which as you would think has 7 songs from " tales are us" , sadly no " Pilots" or " Human" or " Crystalized green", but depending on what slot they are and how long they have we might get some older stuff, though the other 10 tracks are the other albums.

I really enjoyed the latest Goldfrapp album but if they were to headline a stage I highly doubt I'd see them. My Friday and Saturday night are likely to be spent at the Pyramid and I'm not really sure if the set Goldfrapp would be likely to do is the sort of set I'd like to end my weekend with.

Hoping they play a lower slot!

Saw them a few weeks back and it was a great night. The staging would definitely lose something if they played in daylight, as the low-key new stuff is all moody black and white before the last third of mainly upbeat stuff erupts into loads of colours.

subbing Other or headlining John Peel is where i can see them (although they could fit in to any of the main stages, really.) obviously they'd be better headlining a stage (even if it is the John Peel) but for selfish reasons i'd like them to sub Other / be somewhere else other than a headline spot

Not really sure how big they are these days anyway, hard to place where they'll be on the bill or the site. Absolutely love Tales Of Us, if half the set is made up of that I'll be happy. Would love to see A&E too, don't know why but I haven't seen them since 2006, regret not seeing them more.

I think the stage they play should reflect what they intend top play, in an ideal world

If they play the heaver, sexier, electro stuff from earlier albums then subbing the Other would be ideal, like when they played in 2004

However they are unlikely to do this (although will still play the likes of Utopia, Strict Machine and Lovely Head) - they will be playing their much slower, less electronic stuff from the new album,. which needs to be played in a dark, more intimate, place. Saying that I think subbing a tent (Acoustic or JP) would still work, because tents are quite dark at any time of day, and with a bit of smoke and lighting, it would still be a great atmosphere to perform the newer stuff

The afternnom Pyramid slot they did last time did not really work, wrong stage, wrong time of day

Agreed I wouldn't really want to see them on the Pyramid, too big and too light if early, especially with the new album. Has to be a dark setting, I would like the Park, I have not seen a headline act there before.

    • Maybe hopeful but get Knocked Loose on the Sunday opposite the legend. Similar to the slot Turnstile had in 2022. Would be absolutely phenomenal.
    • One of my personal favourite bands at the minute - MUNA. Was very surprised not to see them booked in 2023 with their last album but hopefully they'll be around next year. Very fun new album from these guys and, as aforementioned, another standout for me at Big Weekend.
    • Absolutely second this. Were great at Big Weekend and already have a great catalogue of songs forming so far. Would love to see them on the farm!
    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
