Backpacks

Would just like to get this out there.

1st few years all I walked round with was what would fit in my pockets and could tie round my waist. As the years march forward I find my bag getting fuller every year, I use the giveaway one as a shoulder bag but it gets kind of full now, which leads me to my point. Before I get to the backpack stage, I'd like all those people who have over large backpacks on to give a thought to the people around them when they march into the middle and start dancing using the back pack to create a dance floor the size of a field all of their own. Maybe take it off, stick a foot through the strap and jiggle like most everybody else.

Shoulder bag full of cans and a 500ml bottle of spirit. By the time I get into really packed crowds the bag is folded up in my pocket empty and I just have the spirit bottle to swig on for the headliners!

I'd love to know what people have in those massive bags, I only ever have Loo roll, money phone and Camera on me....

Oh and maybe a can of something squeezed in but this I have learnt over the years breaks the strap!

I've got a medium sized rucksack (that I put on the floor or on my front when in crowds), and off the top of my head I usually have a small roll up blanket for the floor, scarf, pack a mac, loo roll, hand sanitiser, suncream, sunglasses, purse, camera, alcohol, bits of food, torch and probably some extra guff that I've forgotten.

I take a small camelbak, fill the bladder with rum and coke, enough room to squeeze tissues, purse, camera etc around the bladder. Very compact, and means drink is accessible at all times!

I usually take a little bag that sits by my hip, I fold up a load of toilet roll, put my camera in there and a bottle of water. Then I tie a hoody round my waist or the straps of the bag.

This year, however, I would love to take my DSLR and I'm thinking about buying a secure, padded and waterproof rucksack, but I want one that fits snugly around my camera. My dad has a camera rucksack and they're pretty good, not too big, but I can understand how it would get annoying to other people.

I normally take a drawstring bag with cans, food, sanitizer, tissues and sun cream! More than sufficient, and doesn't disrupt others in the crowd.

Don't mind people having the huge backpacks, as long as they stay out of busy parts of the crowd..

I have a cheap version of something a bit like this:

Vintage-French-Messenger-Bag.jpg

Fits, my rain poncho (left at tent if it looks like dry weather all day), camera, hand santisliser, toilet paper and 5 or so cans to start me off and small bottle of what ever spirit I've grabbed!

Absolutely no need for the those tourist type backpacks people wear really.

This reminds me of 2010, my first time at Glastonbury. We passed on Stevie and went to see you Levellers at the Glade. Got a good spot and were enjoying it, then they started playing 'One Way'. Some numpty who'd clearly packed all his belongings up and strapped everything on his back ready to leave barged in front of us and started dancing like a loon, apparently unaware he was crashing his rucksack into us and several others. We made it pretty clear he was out of order.

Drawstring bag is what I've used every year. has enough space for a 500mil water bottle, a 500ml spirit bottle, tp waterproof and my smoking box (small lunchbox for rizla, filters tobacs etc). They're great and cheap. Sports Direct is your friend on this one.
