Massive Attack excitement thread

I've been listening to Protection this morning and have to reiterate what a f**ing good album it still is! Some great tracks and I have to say becoming my favourite as a whole album.

Can't agree with you more! absolutely adore the Mad Professor rework of it too. Unfortunately we surely won't be hearing much of it on that Sunday night?

Possibly, unless they take the view as Portishead did that this might be the last time and as headlining go through al the albums, at least two or three from each plus some others with guests etc. I am hoping for Tracy Thorne to guest on either Protection or Better times.

That would be great if that happened. Really enjoyed the Portishead set last year, was only disappointed that they didn't play strangers.

I often see Daddy G getting on the train to school with his really cute kids at my little local suburban station in Bristol.

I find it really funny watching all the hipsters listening to their ipods and not recognising one of the most famous and significant musicians ever to live in their city.

Honestly can't wait for this, expect them to be my highlight musically, should be a great crowd there.

Great music and a band who don't mind bringing important social issues to the table

What if Tricky turns up for some of it? They've patched up the friendship in the last few years.

Seen them live several times and it is hit and miss. Stand out was the homecoming gig in Queen Square/Bristol about 11-12 years ago.

I reckon if this is truly the last chance of them playing live together, they should pull out all the stops. They have a lot to contend with, considering Portishead's performance last year.

I love The Park, it's my favourite stage, but heading Other just seems to be the perfect setting for them. Their sound is just so large.

To wade into this discussion... Blue lines is tremendous, a proper genre defining classic. Mezzanine and protection are both chuffing ace though. I've seen em at a festival before though (v99 maybe) and they weren't good. But it may well be a good way to end the weekend.

Picked up the 2012 remastered version of Blue lines yesterday. Wow! It was already one of my fave albums but this version is amazing. So much more space and detail. Many reissues are not worth getting but this I wholeheartedly recommend. Needless to say MA are one of my must sees this year.

Martina will be performing as a guest vocalist with Massive Attack this summer.

Good news, also their tour starts today or tomorrow I think, so we should have some idea of potential setlist v.soon

I love Massive Attack, one of my favourite bands ever, but unfortunately i only have one "must see" this year and that's Disclosure.

They're on top of their game at the moment and MA, unfortunately are well past their best and unlike Disclosure they won't be able to get every collaborator on stage with them.
