Man the fuck up and improve your footwear then!

There's lots of options from different wellies to insoles to walking boots and gaiters - choose your weapon and get on with it!

I don't mean to be harsh but I assume the girls will be sensible enough to not wear high heels but move to more comfortable footwear, do likewise - good insoles, thick socks. cozy.

Im flying from Ireland. Have to travel light and unfortunately I dont have walking boots. Yes maybe I should have invested in them but at this stage it is too late for me to get any. There is one shoe shop in the town where I live and they dont have any. Working until 7 this evening and flying out at 6am. I wore thick socks in 2011 but I just found it tortourous walking around as the mud caked on the wellies and made them even heavier to walk around. BTW I hate people who say MAN THE FUCK UP. We all have our own expectations for the festival. Anyway I will just have to invest in some wellies when I get there and psyche myself up. At least tomorrow and Thursday look good so I can get in as much of the area as I can.

Accuweather is still good, if you look at the breakdowns for each day there is only 2 hours of rain forecast for friday and the saturday which I'm sure we can live with. My first 2 glastonbury's were 2010 and 2011 so I know what a contrast it can be but as long as its not raining all day fuck the mud!

to be honest you could probably grab a pair on the site. No idea how much they'd cost, but they'd certainly be more comfortable, and you've already got wellies as a back-up if sh*t really does hit the fan.

Good plan. I will do that tomorrow. Gives me a chance to have a good walk around the place also. This is my holiday this year so luckily I have a good bit of spending money for emergencies.

Hold on to your hats, Friday is going to be a soggy wet blast!

Met office currently describing Friday for Shepton Mallet as 'Heavy rain shower' with chance of rain at 60%

Saturday currently looking the worst, listed as 'Heavy rain' with 80% chance.

But this is not over yet. This is not settled weather and the outlook is likely to be changeable up to the very last minute.

I picked up a pair of wellies from a stall near John Peel for £20 last year, a bit expensive, but worth it if, like me, you don't want to carry wellies with you.

I have doc marten wellies! best of both!

I've invested in a pair of these. Ridiculously comfortable!

My only fears are there's not much breath ability and they don't go very high over the ankle.

Don't know whether to play it safe and bring wellies just in case. FTM!

Spent an hour packing this morning. Its amazing what you can fit in to a carry on bag when you roll your clothes up :) :) Now to run the gauntlet of Ryanair's "Does your bag fit into this machine" :)

There are at least ten years worth of threads here saying buy walking boots. We've known we're going since October (on the whole)

You can't be telling me you weren't forewarned - had you seriously only bothered getting trainers?

You'll be ok on arrival wednesday looks dry and I'd bet you can buy some on site on Weds - the camping stores will be open and will be well stocked as they'll have seen the weather forecast and they probably won't get stock-raped as folk will have seen the weather forecasts too.

There's always the chance if you're flying over you must be coming to near a city with camping shops, might be worth a detour if time allows but you have left it tight so it is going to be a right hassle

There's an awesome stall on onecof the main market routes from the pyramid.. i think its called honchos or something like that..they sell all types of walking boots mostly seconds and returns... top names at 30% the normal retail price..still have a pair

The %'s you quote are a general one for the whole day - have a look at the more detailed info - it is better than you suggest.

I hear that - my hubby uses a wheelchair (I think I mentioned that earlier in the thread). I'm really not fussed by a bit of rain (though draw the line at the persistent onslaught of 2007) but wheelchairs + mud can be a right pain in the arse as it makes it so much harder to go on a bimble and see what you find. Luckily last year was fine by Friday morning but this year it seems the most of the rain will fall on Friday, as well as hanging around before and after, so I'm a little nervous.

That said, most forecasts seem to be talking about showers, rather than persistent rain. So, if there's sun in between little spells of rain, hopefully it'll dry out in between and not get too sludgy. That's how weather works, right? RIGHT?!!

MrsRookin, do you use the disabled campsite?

Hey! We won't be in disabled camping, I have enquired in the past about whether hubby would be able to get any access to cut throughs etc due to his variable mobility, but because he doesn't claim DLA or have a blue badge we were told he can't get any help. Which seems ridiculous as his disability is enough to prevent him from moving around the festival when there is mud, but I guess they need to use some kind of criteria to determine who is eligible.

Hope it is manageable for your hubby in his wheelchair, I can't imagine trying to get one through the thick stuff but hopefully I won't be that bad!

I've been looking at that yeovil site.

Apparently in 2011 the rainfall was:

Wed - 3.8mm

Thu - 2.8mm

Fri - 1.8mm

Sat - 0.0mm

Sun - 0.0mm

That cannot be right. So I wouldn't trust that site too much.

Haha, we're going to be swimming this year based on those figures.

I'll certainly appreciate a chance to walk about the site on Wednesday (and hopefully Thursday!!) and will try and do a fair bit of exploring n that then I think :)

I can't ever trust BBC weather after Leeds festival last year, they forcast a good day on Thursday with showers on Friday and Saturday, no one said owt about the thunder and lighting storm Thursday night and the torrential rain Friday and Saturday. My advice is stick your head out of the tent in the morning and see what's happening then.

Saying thst I'm still check8ng every 5 minutes lol

Dont get me wrong. The reason I didnt get any was because the weather here has been so nice for the last few weeks. I suppose I got complacent. I dont have a pair of walking shoes. Never needed them before as I always wore runners at any of the festivals I have gone too (well bar Glasto 2011 where I bought wellies on site). My bad but I was hoping against hope that the weather would be good. I much prefer wearing comfortable trainers when walking around. My wellies wont fit into a carry on bag. Its not a problem anyway. I can get them on site. I just hate walking around in the mud. Maybe I have an OCD about it :) :) Please god the rain wont be too bad. Looking at the acts I want to see I have a LOT of walking to do on Friday :) :)

Yeah, my wife is pregnant and having some back issues so she's on crutches at the moment, really struggling with the decision to go or not, if we even got the first few days I think it'd be worth it the trek down.

That's the approach we are taking!
