Marc Almond

I saw that programme on BBC4 last night as well, a brilliant hour of nostalgia.

Although I always thought Marc Almond was a bloody awfull singer, but his voice just seemed to suit those songs so well it made them classics. Is he still performing though, I know he had a motorcycle accident sometime back that almost killed him?

I saw him at Bestival a couple of years back, after the bike crash. I thought he was really good. Would be very happy to see him again.

I like a lot of his stuff, but some of it is unbearable. He goes so up his own arse with self indulgence that it can only have the one outcome of putting people off.

I met him once when he signed one of his books for me. I asked him to write ' To Dean. From the real Mark Almond'. I asked him to write this because only the week before I had gone to see him dj with one of my brothers and a mate. I got so drunk that I refused to accept it was him doing the dj'ing and even offered my mate out for a fight outside over it (I was in a bad place at the time because I don't, as a habit, go offering to fight anyone, let alone a true friend). Fortunately my mate just burst out laughing and my brother walked off. Unfortunately, my brother later fell asleep at a table. When asked to leave the premesis for being asleep he told the bouncer to go fuck himself. The result of this was that several bouncers steamed in and dragged him down the stairs with his head hitting every step. My brother went to the police about the violence bestowed upon him. When the police got to the place the cctv tapes had accidently been wiped.

So the lesson today is don't tell bouncers to go fuck themselves. I know that you should not do this to policemen either, as when I tried it they locked me up for the night. I was startled in the morning to find that they are obliged to offer you tea and breakfast. That's my tax money being wasted on the likes of me that is. Shouldn't be allowed!

He's got an album based on London out currently, and joint venture featuring theatrical songs on hanging etc. Jolly stuff for an afternoon slot, maybe?

    • Lovely Brexit doc on bbc2 for anyone who wants to relive those golden years.
    • I think some folks are underestimating how many millennials, now into heavier music, were genuinely also into things like techno and happy hardcore in the 90s and early 00s. Scooter may be about is commercialized as it gets when it comes to happy hardcore and techno, but for many, they won't be just a 'silly act' they will be a genuine nostalgia act.
    • Can anyone share please as can’t access the app
    • Someone said something along the lines of "the lows were really low but they highs were really high" and I think that sentence sums up my ps experience this year. Thursday was a downer (even though I got to see men I trust, geese, oklou and fcukers), but the weather, the missed shows and the uncertainty (those comms...) made it a bad day. Friday and Saturday on the other hand where rly good, a bunch of amazing shows each day (The Cure one was quite something), that surprise on Saturday...   Will be back next year, hope they get another impressive lineup as this year (quality and quantity wise) and that tickets and  primarily hotels don't get much more expensive.
    • Rosalia Radiohead NIN MGMT Bjork David Byrne   Also Vince Staples' new album is cool. I could see him returning.
