Right don't laugh at me here cause I'm gonna sound like a right fucking turd head, but I was laid in bed last night thinking of how many, out of the top 6 acts, for the past three festivals, I wouldn't have expected in those slots when we started predicting..

2012:

Expected - Kasabian, Foo Fighters

Didn't expect - The Cure, Paramore, Florence and the Machine, The Black Keys

2013:

Expected - Green Day, Biffy Clyro

Didn't expect - Eminem, System of a Down, Chase and Status, Nine Inch Nails

2014:

Expected - Queens of the Stone Age, Paramore, Arctic Monkeys

Didn't expect - Blink-182, Jake Bugg, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

When I say "expected" I mean I wouldn't have been surprised if I was told it would be them.

Even some of the expected ones became unexpected due to later info (Kasabian claiming they were gonna play outdoor shows and Green Day's Emirates show).

Florence is debatable I guess, but there were less V-style bookings prior to then and I didn't think they'd book her at the time.

So overall, 11/18 (rising to 13/18) of the top 6 acts have been surprises to me over the past three festivals, so I guess we can hope for a few next year to spice up these boring lineups that keep getting predicted.

A nice thought for you all :)

If I remember correctly Florence was leaked quite a while before she was announced. But at the time it was "nailed on" that she'd be subbing the cure. But it turned out she was actually subbing kasabian and no one predicted paramore

EDIT: actually I remember

The cure

Florence

Kasabian

Kaiser chiefs

Foo fighters

The black keys

Was "leaked" a week before the announcement if I remember. Everyone believed it as well.

No it wasn't, and no they didn't.

    • While i whole heartedly agree with both these statements on a personal preference level -     ive come to reluctantly accept that bland is always popular and il normally just show myself to the other stages where the better times are to be had during the Pyramid headliner slots.
    • Sun's out today. Can feel the hills calling. Time to ramp up the energy levels. I've been easing my way in gently the last 2 weeks with the likes of Hayley and Lael Neale and Cut Worms and Maria Somerville etc. Time to unleash some Shame, Mogwai, Place to Bury Strangers and especially Wednesday and Mannequin Pussy.  Also, just back from a brilliant night in Belfast at the Fleadh Ceoil so anything with a fiddle or a whistle or a squeeze box is drawing me like the Sirens. Madra Salach with the volume up. COME ON!!
    • My Orange car park ticket turned up today. The envelope looked like some kind of junk mail offering me a loan so I nearly didn't open it!
