No one has blind conviction, he's just saying he thinks it's gonna be them, as lots of people have said they think it'll be other certain acts.

I'l keep predicting them until something solid comes that says they won't be doing it.

Sounds like blind conviction to me

It's not anti corporate otherwise it'd fall on it's arse, but it's got some way to go to be near "the Carling Weekend". Barely even turns a profit so they're not doing that good a job at it.

Well R&L isn't called the Carling Weekend either, now...

Yeah Glastonbury may barely turn a profit, due to all the charity money it gives away, but it still makes part of that money due to corporate things like a massive "EE recharge tent".

Probably not as corporate as R&L actually, but it's still pretty corporate, and Rock Werchter is just as corporate as R&L (they had a Lipton ice tea DJ booth and on-site competitions to win cars when I went).

No it's not but I don't believe it's gone boutique since then.

The partnerships it makes are kind of a necessity though. EE put on a lot of the mobile connectivity shit that modern day people need from the festival. The Guardian do all those guides you get for free as you enter rather than paying £15. Brother's Cider is a local cider that was popularised through Glastonbury. What are the other gripes people have?

I didn't realise Werchter was held up as anti-corporate anyway so I wouldn't know about that.

Werchter isn't but all I was saying was that I don't understand the argument that Jack White won't play R&L as he hates corporate festivals yet he'll play Rock Werchter.

Maybe he likes Rock Werchter? Maybe he likes Belgium? Maybe he consideres the likes of Glastonbury and Werchter on the acceptable side of corporate?

The Prodigy

The Vaccines

Bloc Party

NME: Lana Del Rey

Kanye West

The Black Keys

Kendrick Lamar

NME: Enter Shikari

The Libertines

Two Door Cinema Club

Bastille

NME: Rudimental / Clean Bandit

Feasible? Or is that too much of a big wish.

I wacked Bloc Party in because it's not uncommon for Reading to nab a reunion band.

I don't do these very often, but that looks okay. I'd go.

And yeah, still can't see Reading booking The Libertines, but it'd be nice

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
    • In a 6,800-word Substack essay, external, the Clacton MP said "anti-white racism was embedded into the state", and that legislation aimed at equality was a form of "social cleansing"   .https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdjkd4mp93zo   The privileged white c**t hasn’t got a clue what racism is.
    • BBC iPlayer: Will serve as the main hub for past sets, including both recent hits and iconic archival gems. [1, 2, 3] TV Broadcasts (BBC Two & BBC Three): The channels will air dedicated compilation shows. Leading up to the weekend, you can watch archive programming such as Glastonbury: 70s Legends, 80s Legends, and 90s Legends on BBC Two. [1] Radio & BBC Sounds: Pop-up Glastonbury radio stations on BBC Sounds will feature non-stop coverage, including exclusive mixes and huge sets from past years
    • Got HBO Max to watch football so watched One Battle After Another which is a great film and deserves its awards and then rewatched Magnolia and that is a flipping amazing film...so much in it. (also rewatching Angels In America series which is also amazing).
