They're most definitely shite. They headlined five years ago (and were worse than Blink was purported to be) and being big doesn't make them any good a booking. No doubt Blink are a shite booking and a worse band but at least they haven't played a festival since or even a show in UK for two years - two years where KOL have done two festivals and endless arena tours and outdoor shows. Also I would've thought Blink had more material, although that point wasn't relevant in the first place.

KOL were decent at Leeds, far better than blink, AM rhcp etc. By all accounts they were really shit at reading though.

They were really good at IOW, but I can't see R&L booking them; they don't mean anything to the yoof any more

Also it probably doesn't help my opinion that Peace were a bit shit at Truck

How can you say that when neither have gone that far in their careers yet? Both debuts only came out last year!

Because if there was still any excitement around them Peace's latest single wouldn't have charted at no. 66 and Swim Deep wouldn't be playing under The Pigeon Detectives at a festival in Portsmouth on the weekend of R&L

I wouldn't be so quick to write them off though as you could do the same about so many bands after their debuts as people always lose interest but it does come around again but if you journo types just put them aside as soon as they have one bad single then yeah, ofc hype is going to die down.

I've heard they were just ok from the mates that saw them. I couldn't really say though, as I was watching FNM (after nearly getting crushed on the way out of the crowd).

I'm not putting them aside; it's not a matter of taste, it's just fairly easy to gauge that those sort of bands are losing people's interest

I'm not saying that they're shit bands all of a sudden, it's just that I think they don't really excite people at the moment and I'd be very surprised to see them evolve in to more than just slacker-bands

It's less about them putting out a bad single and more about the whole B-Town scene running its course, which I think is a fair observation to make

They're not great, but they're far from shite. I still think they're a much better booking than Blink, both in a quality and business sense. Blink's headline status is debatable and they'll play a similar setlist to four years ago, whereas with KOL it'll be a completely different show to when they last headlined (I meant new material, fuck knows why I put more) and, much like Arctics, they're capable of shifting a shedload of tickets even if people have had ample opportunity to see them in the 12 months beforehand.

It wouldn't be a inspirational booking at all, but FR could do far worse.

Did you go to Truck this year Tourette? I know you've mentioned you've been before. They really outshone The Cribs this weekend. Stunning light show as well as great crowd interaction and because of this next time they play R&L, I can't see them playing anywhere other than top NME.

Unfortunately not, had to skip this year. Will hopefully be back next year.

Well they've gone from 3rd NME to NME sub to 4th main stage, 3rd main or headlining NME would be the natural progression unless you're saying their popularity is waning, which I guess is a possibility for any act.

Yeah do teenagers really like KOL? They seem to me like one of those bands that annoying teenagers hate (the ones that like AM/Oasis/Stone Roses, etc., and hate anything radio-friendly (ironically)).

Obviously they could headline, but they wouldn't really be that popular I doubt, after all the fuckin shows they do.

I'd say they have more selling power than The Killers anyway. V was fine last year, even with their (smallish) arena tour and IOW sold on the same level of previous years despite Kings have a load of big mainland dates, although admittedly it seems Chilli's helped that a fair bit.

Yes but IOW isn't R+L. IOW almost exclusively hosts some of the safest, most boring stadium rock names as headliners so they were never going to fail there. R+L is more youth-centric and, as raw pointed out earlier, I don't think youth really gives a shit about them anymore now they're just releasing as an excuse to do tours that sell off the back of OBTN.
