R+L: The Prodigy, The Black Keys, Muse

Download: Blink-182, Metallica, Biffy Clyro

Sonisphere: Slipknot, Guns N' Roses, Rage Against the Machine

Glastonbury: Florence and the Machine, Radiohead, Foo Fighters

TITP: Foo Fighters, Kasabian, Muse

V: Kasabian, Coldplay

IOW: Cancelled

I think Muse will do IOW/V/Glasto rather than Leeds, and then Leeds the following year probably.

Why would it?

It continues to book strong, varied line-ups that suit its target audience. There's nothing to suggest its gonna go down the pan.

Except 2012 put a lot of people off and 2013 sold terribly. The full line up should really be out by now but instead there are four or five bands. Four months between line up release and the festival isn't good for one that's just sold poorly and is also reliant on a 'strong, varied line-up' to attract people from mainland UK. R+L could even have their next announcement before IOW's. We know how dangerous the festival market is now anyway so I don't think there is room for ones that struggle for a few years anymore.

There's nothing to suggest that ticket sales were significantly worse than 2012 or any other fest last year. I'd imagine they haven't announced anything since Christmas because tickets have been at early bird prices for most of the time since then, and I'd except that they're being held back by an act that is clearly holding back lots of acts across Europe.

R&L 2015

Up&coming: The Black Keys

Godlike: Arcade Fire

Legendary: Radiohead

Yes, I'm using that old formula.

I personally think Muse will be at Glasto next year.

And IOW should and will be cancelled for sure.

The festival made the classic 'struggling festival' move and sold tickets for half price on Viagogo last year. They were the only festival that did that so I guess that's something. If rawaudioinput did bump into Giddings then he was very vocal in how and why it failed to perform and what he was planning to do to get headliners this year. And that's the thing, they shouldn't be at early bird prices - the last few years the whole line up was out by now.

It's somewhat optimistic to 'expect' a big headliner is halting release of the whole line up but yeah, it's possible. It probably won't matter much as they can't seem to get bands to agree not to play mainland UK and denting potential ticket sales.

Either way, it's just a [somewhat bold] prediction. I'm not knocking the festival and saying it's shit, I just don't see much of a future in it. No need to be upset.

Oh I'm not upset, I don't really care for it- I'm just saying it looks just as popular as ever from my point of few & can't see why it would get cancelled.

Did Coldplay ever played R&L? I think they would headline R&L someday eventually, just like Radiohead surprisingly headlined R&L in 2009. I don't think they will be at Glasto or V next year because it's so soon. Maybe next year at R&L? Another bold prediction. :sarcastic:

Is that a formula that they even use to book acts? I thought Yellow told us that is what the categorises for headliners this year would be

Not completely, but isn't that what R&L always has been since 2010?

Difference is they were after Radiohead every year, which likely isn't the case for Coldplay.

Coldplay haven't headlined V... Why would it be too soon?

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
