Short change….

Almost every day I was short changed by the vendors. Unfortunately the worst culprit seemed to my beloved cider bus. Every member of your group got given the wrong change by the bus at some stage during the 5 days. Now I know innocent mistakes happen but this seems a bit too often.

One guy at the cider bus rather abruptly told my Mrs “What do you want now!” when she was simply waiting for her £10 change. Anyone else have nay issues?

This got me thinking would an electronic wristband that you transfer money onto like they have in some theme parks be any better? You simply top up before you leave or at information points and any money left on it gets deposited back after the festival; or even to charity at your request. It would speed up payment and the stalls, stop the short change, stop you carrying money about and most of all stop/reduce theft/pickpocket of your hard earned cash. It might also help with the pass out shenanigans as they scan the wristband on entry and exit that shows your face etc

At the Arc Bar post Portishead I was given change of a tenner for 2 ales when I gave a 50. I said it to them straight away and they did not even do a double take or blink to give me my 40. I got a real sense it was something they do now and again to see if peeps are drunk enough to just walk away..........I might have read the situation wrong but I was quite sober at that stage and trust my gut on it...........especially that they did not even seem to want to question me.........How did they know I was not just chancing my arm?

I'd imagine people, including me, wouldn't like the idea of being tracked around the site.

plus it's only as good as the technology.

Expecting about 1,500 terminals to work 100% of the time for 6 days across an area of 8sq miles (or whatever it is) in Somerset in June - somewhat reputed for its rain and mud - is taking a massive leap of faith.

Because such wristbands would also be used for entry, any computer failure runs the risk of a serious incident when 100,000 angry punters can't get into their beloved festival. ;)

Chappati man accidentally gave me about 15 quid change from a tenner, I gave it back, they thanked me with a free chappati. I danced to Rodrigo y gabriella shortly after and threw up 2 pills just as many chappatis , a bottle of wine and a few brothers

Win soon became a loss

girl at t-shirt stall next to the pyramid tried to bump me my change, went off to the other end of the stall to serve someone else as i waited, called her on it, gave her the look that i wasn't for letting it go and she came back with it & mumbled an apology as though pretending she'd forgot.....

was sunny, middle of the day & was only a few people at the stall so total bollocks she would forget or be mistaken as to who she was serving, the girl was just blatantly trying it on to pocket the cash (only £2 but still)

The short changing thing probably explains how i managed to spunk £80 away in one day without actually buying anything apart from food and a few drinks.

On a side note I gave Freddy who was the little kid at the piercing and body jewelery stand a quid because he helped me pick out a new earring. He looked super chuffed but we was really helpful bless him (I think he was about 8 or so?)

The Hippy Chippy gave me change for £10 instead of £20. I called her on it and she coughed up my extra £10. I assumed it was an innocent mistake. Maybe not! Though in one of the tents in the greenfield they gave us our coffees and walked off and I had to wait ages to pay for them though they seemed very grateful that I hadn't just walked off without paying.

I ordered 2 chicken burgers for me and the Mrs, charged me £17. Walked away then realised that was steep even for Glasto prices, questioned the guy who said id ordered them with chips so thats what he'd charged. When I then questioned if that was the case why did he not serve it with chips he made a quick retreat and refunded me

That was by the pyramid

Me and the partner had people try it twice but I'm quite vocal with things like that and he's not. I went to the garlic bread stall by the pyramid (little castle place) and gave her £10 for something that cost £3. She looked at me and said "wait over there" with a snarl and I said not without my change. She coughed it up quickly as she knew she was trying it on. In Back of Beyond, the partner bought a cocktail for £6.50 (double)- he'd only asked for a single but they gave him a double and charged him. He handed over a £20 and they gave him £11.50 change. He was too scared to say anything bless him but I couldn't say for him as I hadn't been near the bar to order.

Bless the folks at the Bimble Inn, my drinks came to £7 and the lady gave me £7 change from £20. I pointed out the mistake and she said should there be £10 with that? The old till there doesn't work out change.

get better tills could be one solution

im sure most vendors make enough profit?

as to people feeling embarrassed to ask.query it - i can totally get that, if it's really busy i'd feel awkward and embarrassed

but if it's quiet much easier to deal with

For quite a few years now, I've made sure to bring my cash in 10 quid notes, never anything higher (or lower).

I find that it makes it easier to keep track of how much you're spending, and it also reduces the change of being short changed (or given a fake note in change).

Oh my god I'm so too trusting, I never check my change as I just presumed that cause it's glastonbury that everyone was caring and lovely and don't do bad things. I spent more then I could work out for and now I think I know why. :-(

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
