Every game for both United and Liverpool is important as the next as far as I see it. United, as they well should, will continue to fight for the highest spot possible until those spots and mathematically impossible. Liverpool will do the same as that highest spot isn't out of reach, and it's the league title.

So this is a massive game for both clubs. It's also Liverpool playing United. It's always a big game.

You might as well be saying: all it takes for Fulham to win the league is around 50 more points.

It is a bigger game for Liverpool then Utd, but only because the win could see them pull further clear of Arsenal and really make a push for top 3. And a top 3 position for Liverpool would be a big deal too, as while 4th is their 'target' 3rd would give them automatic qualification to the group stage and thus a bit more flexibility with the finances they can spend in the summer. With the way the playoffs are done now, whoever finishes 4 could draw someone like Bilbao, Schalke or Inter / Fiorentina and whoever Russia, France, Holland, Portugal etc put in the playoffs.

Liverpool really need to be looking up from here. Man U could really make some ground on Arsenal over March if they did pick up the wins, but it doesn't change the fact they're a mediocre side who'll drop more points between now and the season end and thus won't do that lol.

I always forget what happens in terms of Europa league places if champions league winners win the 2 cups (as very possible this season. Will they go to Sunderland and (possibly) Hull Or go to (probably) Everton and Man Utd. I still think its a tournament worth taking serious now the champions league place is the prize.

If the winner of the FA Cup is in the top 4, it goes to the runner up, if the runner up is in the top 5, it goes to 6th place.

If the winner of the League cup is in the top 5, it goes to 6th/7th place.

(the reason I'm using this order is the league cup winner/lowest league qualifier enters a round earlier)

On that basis man utd definitely have something to play for in the league then.

Depends if they want to play in it though? I don't think they will take it very seriously, certainly won't take to many first team players during the group stage.

Will be a good way of blooding the fringe players though.

I do think they will qualify for the Europa, hopefully at everton's expense.

Anyone who doesn't, fan, manager, player, chairman, etc. is a disgrace to football.

You have to be realistic about it though, same way clubs don't take the FA Cup or the League Cup seriously to the latter stages.

United's main aim will try and get top 4 next season and they won't want a secondary cup competition to get in the way.

Pressure is on United for me, why is there pressure on Liverpool? It's a big rivalry, but Liverpool can take confidence in seeing Fulham, Sunderland, Newcastle, West Brom, Swansea, Southampton, Spurs and Everton all going to OT and getting results there, why can't Liverpool. Moyes record against Liverpool speaks for itself, and when it's a big game, He has a tendency to bottle it... Liverpool go there knowing that they're well in the running for 3rd, and a win could give them a look in for the title, but pressure? I can't see why.

Pressure is on Liverpool because every point gets them closer to a realistic chance at glory. There isn't a game without pressure on it at the moment.

I agree with domdom, big pressure in Liverpool as its the biggest chance of the title for years. They might not get another one for years, especially with the spending power of others.

United must know realistically 4th isn't going to happen.

Whether they see it that way or not, United will fight until it's out of their grasp, as well they should. They aim for that spot, they might land not far below, and given the season they've had, an EL spot wouldn't be a disaster.

I think united will get 5th, finishing above everton will feel like a mini victory haha.
