There's a piece in today's Guardian that brings together footie and festivals...

In the article there's a section about football related band names, and it mentions that 'Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink' was one of the bands listed on a Leeds Festival poster one year.

So that's lead me to email them and fill them in with more details, because all of the following (and probably more, now forgotten) players names have appeared in Reading/Leeds festival announcements over the years...

Ramires, David Luiz, Juliano Belletti, Paulo Ferreira, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Eh? Apart from the 2nd goal I'm not sure that any team could have stopped the other 3.

Agreed, but theres the question whether he would have got the opportunites against a better team. They were fantastic to watch but to me the best individual performances are the ones that turn the really important games.

I can't remember but does this years R&L poster have a Chelsea player in it? I think the booker who kept doing it has left now.

Pengelly has left, so it doesn't happen anymore.

In fact I think it stopped a while before he did, tho I can't be sure. I stripped the players names out of what I published here, so I've got no easy way of checking.

But him doing the players name thing nearly caused me to think Franz Ferdinand was a made up name too, when they first appeared at Reading as an unknown act.

well, I see that, but Suarez would have got the ball at his feet at some point during a game against any team, and for those goals yesterday having the ball was all that he needed to put it in the net.

He was on fire last night. I reckon that he'd decided he was going to get at least 3 before he stepped on the pitch, and it was that prior thought which caused him to go for goal in the way that he did 9which he might not have otherwise done).

Last night was chalk and cheese against his very anonymous performance at the weekend. Liverpool could have done with some of those goals then, and not last night.

It's quite interesting that his discipline record is the reason he's probably at Liverpool, take that away I'm sure the big boys in Spain would of bitten by now.

You've surely noticed tho that when he's not biting or racially abusing people, he's actually one of the most amiable players that there is - collecting the ball for the opposition, helping opposition players to their feet, etc, etc - to a greater extent than just about anyone else. (And of course he's stopped the other antics, falling over and rolling around).

Add in his competitiveness - as shown last night for example when he should have won a corner (4-0 up at the time, I think ) and hassled the ref for ages about it, plus his tracking back, etc.

It must be maddening for his club when he goes and does something as stupid as the biting. (I've not included the Evra thing cos i suspect that's pretty standard on a Prem pitch, tho normally without the racism included).

I would say in that region. In reality if you exclude the English sides that only really leaves Barca, Real, Bayern, PSG as possible moves. It will depend if any are looking to strengthen in that position. Those teams already have a lot of great attacking players at the clubs.

I would agree, I don't think anyone could say andy cole's 5 goals against Ipswich was one of the best games by a player in prem history.

Although if there was a player you would watch it the league as a neutral it would be Suarez.

Great performance and fantastic player. However have heard a few people talk about it as the best individual performance of the season. I personally think you need to consider the standard of the opposition when making such a statement and Norwich away are pretty terrible.

Agreed, that's why the Giggs goal at Villa Park against Arsenal was so good.

I'd say the same is true of 3 of those from Suarez last night, tho i'd say the same about loads of goals thru the years - even the one by Delph last night.

I remember Messi scoring in some match or other, where he had five defenders very close around him. Ralph said o9n here that a better team would have stopped him, but I don't think 11 players around him from any team would have been able to stop that goal that night.

The importance of the game, the score line of the game at the time, the contexts of the situations, are completely different though. Which is why Giggs' goal was so much better than any of Suarez's last night. IMHO.

It's also why Di Canio's goal against Wimbledon, as amazing as it was, is not held is as high a regard as it could have been, had the match had more importance.
