That's got to be it, surely. That Telluride festival is only a week before Glastonbury. They're clearly not going to risk his recovery by rushing back for the end of the month.

Or we look at this from another perspective. They have cancelled the American gigs in order to return for Glastonbury, the biggest gig of their lives at one of their favourite festivals, which will also be followed by their biggest ever headline own gig at Olympic park the week later.

Do they need the practice, they have been touring solidly for nearly four years now, and what's to say they can't squeeze a little in during his recovery?

Guess it all comes down to whether it is safe to fly back.

he's been discharged from hospital - which gets to mean that aside from recovering from the effects of the surgery (which tends to take less than a week) he's fit and well.

Just read this Nhs leaflet on recovery from cranial surgery.

Clearly we don't know what his doctors have told him or whether he will listen to the advice. However, the general tone of this info seems to suggest that it is VERY unlikely that he will be onstage in 2 weeks given that any type of cranial surgery seems to require a lot of caution afterwards.

Still, on the plus side for him

"You may resume sexual activity when you feel ready"

but on the down side

"Avoid any activity that causes you to hold your breath and push...for example straining during stool movements"

Their music is comparable to taking a massive dump, so I cant see him performing.

Reading their statement I think they definitely will be there. As someone els said, how much practice do they need when they've been on tour for months? They're just taking the next few shows off but I predict Glasto and the London show will go ahead. He could even do just a partial set with someone else standing in for the second half but he will at least be there by the sounds of it. That way they don't have to feel bad about leaving them out but can still do the biggest gig of their lives.

I think being able to resume some non-strenuous activities in a couple of weeks is one thing, performing the biggest gig of one's life is quite another. Like them or not, their style is highly energetic. It's not like they're The XX for fuck's sake!

He ain't playing and by the looks of things neither are the rest of them.

You know my view on Mumfords and I'm so pleased it looks like he's on the road to recovery but on that basis let's just concentrate on who will now be headlining the Sunday night at Glastonbury. My money's on The XX moving across and The Smashing Pumpkins headlining Other.

It's good news that he's out of hospital and it does sound like he may be well enough to play Glastonbury. The only potential problem I can see is getting back to England. I'm not sure whether he will be able to fly this soon after a brain operation so it will have to by sea (assuming he doesn't have to check back in to the hospital to make sure all is well).

Well why don't they just come out and say it if they know already they'll have to cancel? They must be playing it by ear with the assumption that he will be okay.

But yeah as someone else said if they don't I envision The XX shifting over. They've headlined a few main stages at festivals already.
