Happens to thousands every year. My Missus lost the car last year! Had to get security to drive around the fields until she found it

after pitching in 2011 me an another in the group went to fetch the booze from the car, we lost the car and took 2 hours to find it. upon fetching the booze we went back to the tent and spent an hour trying to find which field we'd camped in!

moral of the story is never trust someone else to remember where you parked/pitched

That happened to a friend of mines at Rockness one year too!

We were all sitting about and some completely burst guy came over, lifted a tent and just left with it, we all laughed wondering what he was doing (assuming it was his own tent), about 20 mins later my mate showed up asking where his tent was...we had no idea it was his, we felt terrible, but laughed for ages. He was torn up because he had his favourite jeans in the tent! We suitably cheered him up with plenty of booze over the weekend.

Some people!

Never lost my tent at Glastonbury. I did give up trying to get there in 2011 because of the mud and also being totally spannered with drink etc. I chose to just lay down in the mud and give up instead. Fortunately two of my mates were following someway behind, saw me and insisted I get up. I refused, so they manhandled me back to my tent.

I did manage to lose my tent at Bestival last year though. I got so cold walking around that I crawled under a flattened tent and lay there for an hour or so. Then I heard people all around me talking with some saying that there was a person in their flattened tent and some saying there wasn't. Then I heard someone say 'give it a kick and see'. It was at this point that I decided to make my presence known. I explained my situation and they said it was alright for me to stay there. One young lady even came back with a red blanket for me to use. If you are that person and you are reading this, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

A friend slept under a see-saw at Glastonbury for an evening wich unsurprisingly gave him next to no protection from the elements.

At Breach Break in 2009, a friend of ours got so drunk in the 4/5+ queue to just get on the shuttle bus that he woke up having drunk all his booze for the three further days & spunked his money on ropey pills... in between a Vauxhall Astra & a clapped out Fiat, still 2/3 miles away from the festival still in the car park.

First year I went to Leeds festival (2002) we pitched up on the friday morning then went into the arena. On the night when it was over they closed off the entrance we came in, not that we could remember, and sent everybody through a different one. Anyway it took us about 3 hours to find our tent because we didn't take note of which field we were in.

Of all the basic skills and functions I lack, I do seem to have a nearly superhuman sense of direction and location, perhaps this is to make up for my lack of mathematical ability, lack of physical strength and coordination, inability to drive despite 5 years of lessons, and obsessive tendency to say something deliberately weird, controversial or provocative to any new person I meet... it's to gauge whether or not they're a square or worth my time. And it's due to this that I have thankfully never lost my tent at a festival. One year at Leeds I woke up on Thursday morning, covered in an unidentifiable pink substance, minus a shirt, and in an otherwise empty tent, completely alien to me. I had no recollection of anything since getting shit-faced in Piccadilly railway station the day before, but regardless I picked myself up and walked over to where my friend had pitched our tent on the other side of the campsite, despite having no conscious knowledge of ever having seen it, I just employed my uncanny homing-pigeon sense. If I don't do this at Glastonbury this year then I'll feel I've missed out.

Weve got a camp light with a remote control function... so as long as we get to correct field and within a reasonable distance, we can hit the remote andit lights right up!

First priority: know which field you camped in and what your tent looks like :)

Second: priority: make your tent look distinctive somehow (flags, fabrics, day-glo paint, whatever)

Third priority: know which distinctive tents / flags are near yours.

Fourth priority: know which distinctive tents / flags are on the nearest accessible pathway / walkway

Generally some combination of the above and you're smiling.

Don't neck three pints of Brothers in quick succession, and then go and look for your tent in the dark, fatal combination.

I can't say I lost it, but it did take 4 hours to find it, much of the time in the wrong field.

Haha constant laughing at reading these, people in the office just staring at me thinking, what a strange person! Great stories though, lets hope it doesn't happen to me. May just tell the mrs she is in charge of getting me back to the tent!!
