I love the fact that the annual Black Crow 'there's no way Soni will be cancelled look at the European ones and what the organisers said why would they lie you idiot if you don't believe me you're wrong I have inside info oh shit it's been cancelled' drama is rolling into a third year, I think I'm looking forward to March because of the Soni confirmation more than I am the R&L line-up.

Trent has gone on record in the past stating that he won't work with Livenation unless he has to ie they own a venue needed for his tour. This weekend will have pissed him off further seeing as though LN have a stake in these festivals, as well as FR.

Download have had plenty of chances to book them and haven't done yet -

2005 - European festivals + Academy tour.

2007 - European festivals, played Reading/Leeds

2009 - European festivals, played Sonispere, T, Oxegen

2013 - European festivals, played Reading/Leeds

If I was to bet, I would say Arena tour next year + T, Sonisphere & Oxegen.

It'll sell tickets fine if the line ups good enough, people are fickle and most won't even know it wasn't on last year. Most people don't care about festivals in that way, if they see some big bands at the top of a poster they'll probably want to go. I'll buy a ticket if the line ups good, so what it didn't happen for two years everyone got refunds and I can still go Download anyway. The reason Soni did ok to begin with was cause it could book whoever it wants from the limited pool of rock / metal acts and not be accused of repeats, it's pretty much gone back to that position now so should be ok.

If they think they can make money throwing another UK festival on then they will. Given that DL doesn't sell out and R/L appear to be dropping in demand compared to 5 years ago I don't know if there is space for Soni but they'll probbaly try if they can get big headliners.

Not saying I think it'll happen though, more just that if it does it'll probably have a line up that ****s on Download, because they probably won't bother otherwise.

When I was going Reading and Leeds 5 years ago (maybe longer? Defo 2008...) tickets used to sell out in about an hour on all the ticket sites and there was the whole server crashes, mad rush etc. Tout prices would go to sometimes double face value for both festivals and day tickets would be gone too. This year Reading took a long time to sell out and Leeds didn't, the tout market was pretty much non-existent etc. I think it's a similiar story with TITP in terms of sales being much slower, albeit I'm not really sure as I don't follow it that much.

No one cares though, Download 2009 had lostprophets headline and apparently abysmal ticket sales (I didn't go but heard numbers, most people there say it was quiet too). But it bounced back, people will go Soni if it has a good line up and all will be forgotten. I get this impression that people think Soni coming back is a bad thing or something? I don't see the harm in having two rock festivals, especially if Download are promoting A7X to headliner and thinking about booking NIckelback... I get that splitting the limited pool of bands can lead to weaker line ups but in all honesty I've thought the past few DL's have been some of the weakest so in reality it probably doesn't matter all that much.

Yeah you only have to look at the overriding genres polluting the radio and television to know that a move away from RAWK was necessary. Soni getting shitcanned shows that there isn't enough demand to maintain two heavy rock-oriented major festivals, which is why T, V and R&L have all moved towards less rock over the last few years.

    • Debut album from Haiver (ex Frightened Rabbit's Billy Kennedy band) is an absolutely gorgeous thing. If you're a fan of FR then you'll probably like it. Definitely a contender for album of the year for me.
    • The tickets for the back at Muse, did go on sale. I know because I bought tickets there because they were the cheapest. All in with fee's, I got tickets at £81.20 each.   So likely, sold out quickly for those wanting the cheapest tickets. Either that or sold poorly and they took them off sale and when I turn up they offer me paper ticket upgrades because they closed the back.
    • She's headlining Reading and Leeds. Not to be sniffed at. She's also done her substantial arena tour since last time.    I think she's a decent bet to do it.
    • The best Punisher stuff from the Bernthal time is probably Daredevil. Although season 2 of Punisher is a great kinda study on what Castle can be.   But his first turn up in Daredevil was an absolute blast.    I thought Brand New Day did a decent job with him.
    • Basement only getting 30 mins right at the start of the day is a ballache, how annoying
