My brother went to see Daft Punk in '97, my mum wouldn't take me that year though becuase I was only 12, I went the following year and ended up seeing FInley Quaye, Tricky, The Roots and Roni Size - not my finest list of acts when I look back at who actually played in '98!

You just made me take a trip back in time and look up that line up/setlists/pics for Glasto 1997 out of boredom........I have nearly drowned in my drool!................That mud looks as epic as 2007!

I would kill to go back in time and see daft Punk in 97. They played a gig at The Arches in Glasgow which has a capacity of 2000, it would have been epic.

I saw Daft Punk at Glasto '97 they were amazing I seem to recall they had to stop halfway through the set though because someone had climbed up one of the tent poles and was going to jump off.

Are Daft Punk headline status purely because they rarely play any shows? Find it a bit odd to be honest. They were never huge in their prime.

When was their prime though? Surely it's now? The last time they played in England, they sold out Hyde Park. Pretty big.

DP are big enough to headline the Pyramid because they are big enough. Simple. They are absolutely massive. Nothing to do with the absence. In 2007 they were ripping it up everywhere they went and that only made them bigger..........

I think they will embark on a massive tour next year, Glasto will ask and they will decline as they will be offered big bucks elsewhere. I hope not, but I fear this will happen........

Of course if I dont get a ticket for next year they better decline!

To be fair, they headlined the saturday of wireless festival, which was sold out. Its not quite the same thing as selling out hyde park themselves

It's like this Stones gig though. That's a 'festival' too, but people ultimately only go for the 'headliners'

I'm not denying Daft Punk were a big pull, but its not the same thing

The lineup from 2007 has 5 stages listed. Still, four, five, whatever. My point still stands

Did Wireless in 2007 really have 5 stages? I went to the White Stripes gig (stupidly missed Daft Punk having seen them the previous summer at Global Gathering) and I can only recall there being 3 stages? At least only 3 main stages, all of which finished before the main stage headliner? I think you can compare the situation - not the actual size of acts (I am in no way saying that Daft Punk or anywhere near as big as The Rolling Stones) but I would arge they are far bigger than Bon Jovi in terms of a headliner that would sell tickets.

more to do with the fact that in their absence electronic music has gotten huge and they're one of the pioneers / influences of a lot of todays modern acts, therefor making more people interested in Daft Punk. absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that jazz. a similar situation is when RATM split, they were playing fourth down at Reading/Leeds, and then when they reformed, headlining. Daft Punk didn't split but their long absence has had a similar effect on them
