Absolutely.

To be clear, I'm not just defending Rolf because he's Rolf. I'm defending him because an elderly man is being presumed by the press and the public to be guilty of the worst kind of sexual offences when in truth, he's not even been charged with anything at all. This post-Savile witch hunt has got to stop.

Saw Mickey Flanagan the other night. He reckons the police are going to arrest all of the 1970s.... The Banana Splits are going down big time.....

Rolf has not been proven guilty, he's innocent. I feel really bad for him at this point in time, it'll be hard for him to change his reputation around if nothing comes of this.

being arrest once, maybe. Twice though? The police must be incredibly confident of his guilt.

That being said, our police are proven time and again to be corrupt and incompetent, so who knows.

Without the concept of innocent until proven guilty, we're fucked as a society.

It's long gone already. Didn't you know?

There's a big long list of laws, introduced in the last 15-ish years, which do not operate on the "innocent until proven guilty" basis. These laws are from the low-level mundane to treason-level.

We're fucked as a society.

However I would say that these are classed as exceptions to the law, as opposed to the law being "prove yourself innocent" except for these laws.

they might be exceptions within the whole of the statute book, but they're becoming increasingly common with newly passed laws.

Yet another is now under consideration, of banning suspected (just suspected, with no convictions) sex offenders from certain locations. While in itself it sounds sensible enough (after all, who wants their kid molested?), it's essentially convicting someone when there's no evidence with which to convict them.

But hey, if you've done nothing wrong you've nothing to fear, right?

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
