We aren't musically clued up, we're fucking retards, Manchester is the same urban shithole as any other major UK city, there's just a large concentration of arsehole sycophants that seem to think they're of a better than an analogous arsehole of the same caliber from Birmingham or Newcastle because Morrissey and Ian Curtis both happened to be born within a 25 mile radius of where they were and some drugs were taken in the 90's. Fuck you, early 20s Manchester morons, neither Mozza nor Curtis saw Manchester as a place worth staying in and took their chances in Los Angeles and the unknowable beyond respectively. The saddest thing about Manchester is how we buy into our own hype and the council and big business peddle it back to us thinking we'll eat it up like the idiots we are, I've walked around the city centre and noted how it's full of ITV watching cretins and seen how the surrounding suburbs are full of loudmouths, drunks and homeless guys, but Manchester must be the greatest city on earth because it says so in bright colours on that wall. Every time I see some little prick with a puberty beard and a Stones Roses t-shirt talking rubbish in his best Gallagher accent about how Manchester is musically so great due to a few bands, during who's heyday he was but a gubby little sperm cell in his old man's bollocks, I want to vomit.

The Courtneers are utter dogshit. probably number one on my list of bands who's popularity makes me question the human race. i agree that the tent will be absolutely rammed for them (for reasons unknown to me). would've thought they'd be on the Other stage in a similar position tbh

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised (but I am) at the hatred for the Courteeners. Music is of course highly subjective, as is all art, but some things are obviously divisive and others less so. I'd expect some people to be unexcited by the Courteeners, but not so violently offended!

FWIW I like them. Good sing along catchy guitar pop/indie for when I'm in a not-too-serious mood.

Having said all this, I also think that the XX are boring, crap and overrated and every Horrors song sounds the same. Both bands well liked and respected on these boards so I suppose it's all Yin & Yang.

I really liked the Courteeners debut album and went to see them, was a great gig. Not seen them since as I haven't really enjoyed what they've put out since (bar Cross My Heart & Hope To Fly). I'll be watching them at Glasto depending on who they clash with.

One of my 'can't miss' bands of the weekend. Its rare I'll get excited by a performance on Jools Holland as the format seem to suck the life out of bands for me. They however, looked unstoppable when I caught them on it. I hadn't been much of a fan before other than Rise but I've been all over them after that.
