From http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/areas/block9:

Don't miss Block9's brand new field at this year's festival. Radical set design duo Block9 are back for 2013 to host another sensational apocalyptic spectacle including GENOSYS – an epic new art installation and electronic music arena.

This late night wonderland will open from sunset to sunrise in a brand new location (to be announced). Expect heavyweight soundsystems, underground nightclubs, bars, huge art installations and some extremely alternative performance.

GENOSYS

New for 2013,the Genosys outdoor arena explores the birth of electronic dance music and the legacy of its pioneers. Blurring the boundaries between art and music, sound and light, Genosys pays homage to the pre-digital dance floor. Featuring groundbreaking Chicago veterans GENE HUNT and TYREE COOPER alongside homegrown titans GREG WILSON and BICEP, Genosys is a true audiovisual hybrid and is Block9’s most ambitious project to date.

THE LONDON UNDERGROUND

Now in its third year, The mighty London Underground is a sinister, 50ft decaying tower block with a life-size, blazing tube train bursting from the 5th floor. This towering nightclub venue showcases the cream of London’s soundsystem culture. GRANT NELSON, MOSCA, RANDALL and DIGITAL & SPIRIT lead the roster of DJ’s taking you on a musical journey deep into the underground.

THE NYC DOWNLOW

Celebrating 7 years of mayhem, Block9’s legendary NYC Downlow returns in 2013 bigger and badder than ever before. In this life-size ruin of an NYC tenement, the murky homo fantasies of The Downlow crew fuse to resurrect New York’s golden age. KERRI CHANDLER, ROBERT OWENS, HORSEMEAT DISCO, MY LOVE IS UNDERGROUND and DIY turn up the heat alongside veteran Downlow resident DJs. Expect the finest Disco, Soul, Gospel, Funk and Vintage Deep House all night, every night... and don’t forget your moustache!

THE DOWNLOW RADIO The number one portal for the global homo-soul-funk underground, WWW.THEDOWNLOWRADIO.COM teams up with some VERY SPECIAL GUESTS to present room 2 at The NYC Downlow. It’s all about the simple pleasures in life a black box, a fat sound system and a collection of the hottest, vintage-black-music devotees this side of the Atlantic.

Oh I missed that bit in my excitement at the lineup. Wonder where it will be. Tbh if it means not having to go the long way round to get in like last time, then splitting up the late night areas is probably a good idea. Hopefully it's not too much of a trek between them though

Block 9 is an excellent area, always something cool going on. I'm definitely going to make more effort to go into the clubs in Block 9 this year as they all look pretty amazing.

So Genosys is exploring the birth of electronic dance music, and Greg Wilson is DJing there, looks like he'll be playing one of his legendary ElectroFunk sets. This DJ revolutionised British dancefloors, he introduced the UK to the post-disco electronic sounds coming out of America, the sounds which developed in to HipHop, House, Techno and DnB.

For those of you who don't know Greg (who DJed at the Wigan Casino and the Hacienda), check his stuff out here: https://soundcloud.com/gregwilson/sets/electrofunkroots-1

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
