Ok, it turns out my other half is a fan (had i known that before, we'd never have got together), so i picked her up 'eliminator' on vinyl for 4 quid this morning. I quite like that 'gotsta get paid' but this is just dreadful.

hehe. Not surprised it not up your street. Fairly compliant blues rock played well. But blues rock nonetheless. Try Tres Hombres next!

what bits didn't you like? the barking bit in Dirty Dog followed by Gibbons' 'hey...get that dog outta my yard' texan drawl?

or ... 'I got the six, gimme your nine' bit...

surely you're fine with the rest of it tho?

it might not have aged well, back back in '83 when Gimme All Your Lovin' came out, it was one of those perfect perfect songs for US highways, album rock stations, stereo sound...just f'in great, and the video was unique at the time too

Fully expect to see Mardy doubled up in tears laffin at The Top this summer. "How does this exist?!" commentary etc, only to turn to me mid-La Grange with a shit eating grin his face and go "Okay Dave, they got me. They fackin' got me there. Khants. Pint?"

Yoo I was reading this page from the start yesterday (because it's been such a magical journey, y'know) and you were praising them on page 4! What happened?!

I know i know. I gave them a proper listen this afternoon, and just couldnt get on with eliminator. Like i said, love that gosta get paid song, and i suspect Wooderson's prediction is right. Just sounded awful when i put on that record earlier today. Maybe it was just the wrong choice

but, 'tres hombres, i've seen in the record shop in Moscow.  Might give it a go.

Ah I see. If it's a Eliminator-centric bother then I can certainly agree with that.

mardy, I'm curious about you not liking ZZ Top. You like the blues, don't you?

No, i reckon you've got me mixed up with someone else. Can't stand the blues. Generally i find it tedious as all giddyup.

i'm reserving judgement on zz top for now, just noting that eliminator sounded terrible to my ears yesterday.

most importantly, i'm delighted that people i love are happy about this booking. That makes me happy.

Dig deep, go back to the sources. Pre and mid depression scary blues.

For all their rootsy roots, ver Top's best moments are cracking pop singles. For me they've got more in common with T-Rex than they do with Blind Bluesy McBlues and the Bluesplayers.

Indeed. But Billy a cracking blues guitar player. The gigs seem like a nice mix of the two. I've never seen them.
