Radio1 Hackney Weekend

Okay, my first jibe which is kind of irrelivant, this is an event to headline the London Olympics, yet both headline acts are American?

But overall it seems Radio 1 are leaps ahead of FR. Not only did they book Foo Fighters last year and beat us to it but they also had both MCR AND Strokes in lower positions. Not to mention a full surprise set by Arctic Monkeys in the middle of the day and Two Door Cinema Club lower than what we booked them.

And now this year not only do they have Bombay, Maccabees, Lostprophets, Enter Shikari, Santigold AND Azealea Banks in lower positions but they've also booked Florence and they have our headliner Kasabian subbing! Not to mention them securing slots from Ben Howard, Chase&Status and fucking Jack White!!!!

I'm not complaining about our line-up in the slightest, but in my opinion the Radio1 weekend has made R&L look stupid two years in a row

We went through all this last year.

Radio One weekends are for massive c**ts. If you think a collection of massive c**ts with no interest in music whose only motivation is getting on the telly or radio at a thinly-veiled industry suck-up session where the bands charge a pittance (if anything) of what they do at festivals makes you look stupid then I feel bad for you.

You do realize bands do it in exchange for publicity purposes and to make sure they get on the radio 1 playlist right? (and I am pretty sure they play it for next to nothing/at cost of them coming over to get that publicity).

and even if they do pay for all the acts you can have all those bands in lower positions if you want the typical 1 auto tuned pop above it at reading...

Its not comparable in the slightest, so I don't see how reading now looks "silly"

It's the BBC piggy-backing the popularity of the Olympics, it's not really anything to do with the Olympics.

Although the Radio1 lineup is better than Duran Duran, Snow Patrol and Paulo Nutini who are apparently playing at the actual shows

Ahhh, I had no idea that they traded the shows for radio play etc, that makes a hell of a lot of sense as to why all these great bands always play it!

And true, above half those bands are crap like Jessie J etc, I just think its shameful that these great bands aren't getting the recognition they deserve and are being replaced by a load of crap!

And if Kasabian aren't subbing then they are playing their second stage. They're listed one under Jay-Z

Do they do proper sets at the radio 1 weekender? Or just do a few songs each? Never been so I havnt a clue.

Arctic Monkeys played like 14 songs last year, Foo's did quite a few, Lady GaGa did about 14 too. They're the only ones I watched on TV I think they do slightly shorter sets though, but still a decent amount of time and songs

It's generally 30 minute sets from the bottom and then the top 3 get about 40 minutes to just over an hour.

I booked a ticket because it was free (well, £2.50).

Can't get the time off work now.

Ironically, apart from Ben Howard, the only bands I wanted to see are also playing Reading...

Because people want value for money so they obsess over where bands are playing at other festivals and whether they're exclusives or not because they think it devalues their ticket and means the bands were booked for less than if they would have been bona fide exclusives, and therefore think they're being ripped off.
