Have spent a bit more time on these forums over the past few days, with the weather starting to turn for the better and festivals beginning to loom on the horizon again, and it made me realise I've missed this place.

Used to enjoy a really good community spirit on the Glastonbury board, and in here, hanging on the line-up announcements, weather forecasts, flag making threads, and general mutual excitement. Neil's bits of info and wisdom, efestivals radio, and the CD mix threads. There was a great spirit and I used to really enjoy being a part of the place. Do you think it's been maintained as the faces have changed and the years have passed? Think I'll make sure I'm on here a bit more again from now on :)

The old hands are still around. There's just a lot of irritating new kids on the block with their dissertation surveys. But the real festi goers are still here.

I'm now about three weeks away from the completion of the extension of my car parking area to accomodate the caravan I'm buying for this year's fests. I'll then be able to bore for Britain on caravans and asking advice on taking them to fests.

I think the dissertation survey threads should be banned, there should be one sticky thread where people are allowed to post requests for participants, and a ban for any that post outside of there.

hows that for grumpy?

That's good to hear Neil!

I joined these forums years ago, at first I only posted in the festivals that i was intrested/attending to gain some knowlege and insights from the festival veterans which I found very useful.

But then I started visiting the discussion forum as well, which I found very intresting topics to read and post about.

I don't mean that year specifically, I mean that's how it felt in the earlier years - every stall had a big soundsystem, things didn't quieten down across large parts of the site at 2am, there weren't specifc late night areas, the whole place seemed to go on all night. 2002 - the first year after the introduction of the super fence and subsequent reduced capacity - felt for me felt quieter, but by 2004, it felt back to its best in that respect. This is, of course subjective and hamstrung by my incredibly hazy memories of the time :)

Its definitely not the same and doesn't feel as busy. Which is odd because older members are still here and new people keep coming. Its just seems quieter despite numbers. Did we finally run out of things to say?

I'd say that for you, an oldie who tends to only post in response to other oldies, it definitely won't feel as busy. There's less of the people around who you tend to communicate here with, just as a natural consequence of time going by.

But also, it's probably the case that you do feel you've run out of things to say to some extent - I know that I often feel I'm repeating myself, or don't post something I was considering posting because it's the same as something I've posted before.

It's also possibly the case that things you might have once posted here you now post on facebook, to some of the people who used to post here but now use there.

Things might be a little quieter here than they were (say) 5+ years ago due to facebook, but the number of posts being made year on year hasn't changed very much - there was a small drop-off that I put down to facebook but the last 3 years have defo been pretty much the same, and in fact things were busier both on these forums and on efests as a whole during February this year then they were for February last year, despite the absence of Glastonbury this year.

And writing that has just given me an extra thought, that because many of the Glasto regular posters aren't posting this year because of no Glasto, that's probably adding to your feeling that it's quieter, because you're seeing less familiar names.

But overall I'm very surprised at how little facebook has effected things here - but part of that is facebook having an overly-large quota of idiots, who've never been hugely welcomed here.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
