In regard to 30stm set a few years back, me and my friend got so bored we started a drinking game.

Every time jared doesn't sing the words, drink

For ever person he gets on stage do a shot

Every time he does some shit dancy pirouette, drink

Every time you see a 14 year old girl crying and going 'this is amazing, the best day of my life' or words to that affect, drink

There were more but I can't remember them because as anyone who has seen the steaming pile of shit thtat is a 30stm live show can imagine about 3 songs in we were absolutely smashed

If there is, I suspect they're very much sold out already!

I book my Reading Hotel the weekend after the fest normally.

I suspect there is likely to be something left in Leeds city centre, considering its a fair distance away, anythign convenient is like gold dust though, if Reading is antying to go by (I suspect Leeds is worse, considering the non urban location)

Its widely acknowledged that Alt-J are the smallest band to headline the NME in sometime, if not ever, and are punching way above their weight in a slot that is normally reserved for much more established bands, They're nowhere near skrillex in popularity terms and many a year of having the kind of backcatalogue that phoenix have.

Really? On their upcoming tour they've sold out 2 nights at Brixton which are selling on eBay at twice face value (and sold out sharpish when they went on sale). That's not dissimilar to The Maccabees pre-Reading UK tour, just that they've done it on one album. It's also around where LCD Soundsystem were in 2010, and definitely bigger than Klaxons were after their second album. As for the one-album thing, up until 2008 that was pretty much the norm for a R1 headliner.

Beady eye had the Oasis effect, I'd like to point out i thought that was a shit booking.

My claim that Alt J are a weak headliner is that they simply don't have enough material to headline and all the hype has died away. They'd have to play all of the first album plus a third of an unreleased second album to just about fill that slot. Bands headlining the NME off one album was the norm but its becoming a lot less of an established practice as the tents got bigger.

The Maccabes had 3 albums by the time they were announced for Reading 2012 and they are an established act.

As for up till 1 album thing being the norm till 2008, so was the 'heavy' day. Reading has changed. The tent has grown to 20,000 capacity and more established artists are playing it. Brixton is 5,000 i think, so 2 nights there is 10,000. Plus they are headlining against Eminem, who is a huge draw this year. Magnetic Man are also a really popular and I would expect the NME tent to be very empty
