Black Sabbath

We were saddened to hear yesterday via Facebook that Bill declined publicly to participate in our current Black Sabbath plans...we have no choice but to continue recording without him although our door is always open... We are still in the UK with Tony. Writing and recording the new album and on a roll... See you at Download!!! - Tony, Ozzy and Geezer

I'm not a massive sabbath fan but this is a sad day, old men squabbling over how many millions they're set to make. No doubt ozzy's camp will be behind this, not like they need the fucking money.

I'd imagine that if Bill does not end up doing it then the other 3 would end up with a bigger share anyway. It is massively unfair if Bill is getting less of a share, that post didnt just sound like it would be about money though. There seems something ureasanoble in the contract, maybe no influence over his parts in the creative aspects of the new album, ridiculous touring schedule, no time off for events important to him etc, just something more than money does not add up.

Looks like download will be the only European tour date

TOUR UPDATE: BAND’S SOLE EUROPEAN PERFORMANCE THIS SUMMER SET FOR U.K.’S DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL. OZZY & FRIENDS TO PERFORM MAJORITY OF OTHER SCHEDULED SHOWS

BLACK SABBATH --who late last year confirmed the recording of their first new album in more than 33 years and a worldwide headlining tour--have had to put some plans on hold due to Tony Iommi's battle with lymphoma. At this time, BLACK SABBATH will perform only one show of this summer’s previously scheduled European tour. It will take place Sunday, June 10 at the U.K.’s Download Festival.

So as not to let the promoters and fans down, Ozzy Osbourne will now perform the majority of the previously scheduled BLACK SABBATH dates (both festival performances and the headlining shows) billed as OZZY & FRIENDS. These “first ever” OZZY & FRIENDS shows will feature appearances by “special guest” musicians includingOfficial Geezer Butler (who will join Ozzy for a special BLACK SABBATH set as a show of respect and support to their friend, Tony Iommi) and longtime former OZZY band member Zakk Wylde. In addition, OZZY will be accompanied by longtime collaborator and friend Slash at select shows, with other “special guests” set to join the tour at various stops along the way (full list of dates, appearances below).

Tony Iommi continues to make excellent progress and is looking forward to getting back out on the road. Meanwhile, BLACK SABBATH continue to write and record music in the U.K. for their upcoming album. More information about these dates and BLACK SABBATH’s recording and touring plans is forthcoming.

Not gunna start tearing your head off like many have, but in terms of general rock fans, everyone I personally know love it, the online community I speak with love it, in fact I believe you are the only person who dislikes it so much.

Thats your opinion, I think its gunna sell a fuck load, well it already has

...there is still the chance that this could also happen to Download.

First they bring the recording to the UK, now this with the Euro dates.

Either they always knew they would have to cancel the European dates and had to wait until they had confirmed the booking of the "Ozzy and friends" show (which is a pretty shitty thing to do to your fans who would have continued buying tickets to see Sabbath) or Tony's recovery isn't going as well as they had hoped so they've had to scale everything back... in which case it's still possible they'll have to pull out of Download.

...That's my 2 cents!

Do we really want Tony Iommi getting of his sick bed to play? will it affect his recovery? will he have time to rehearse? what quality show will he be able to put on?

what about a Ozzy set (playing a mix of solo and sabbath) followed by a shorter Sabbath set,say 10 tracks with Iommi?

might take the pressure off him a bit.a 90-120 minute set sounds a lot for someone who isn't fully fit.

    • There’s a few in there which could go either way or I’m not bothered if I miss but think that’s now be pretty set.  Few rubbish clashes like Kasabian/Loyle plus Reytons/Pixies/CMAT but I’ll head with the lads to the most popular one.   (And yes no Byrne or Twigs, just can’t into either)
    • I saw somewhere they were advertising Lewis' day as him live on Glagow Green and only mentioned Amy Mcdonald and CMAT as support, 0 mention of the festival  I completely agree this will probably be the last one which is a shame because the first 2 seemed so promising and now its turned into middle of the road rubbish with acts you can see everywhere else  Anyone know if the BBC are covering it next week as it'll be fascinating to see how full (or empty) it is
    • Did anyone catch Viagra Boys last night? A rollicking good set, with a little more free jazz than I expected.   if you’re up early, Walabi is doing a super job in the Cupra Pulse. There till six.

    • They really dropped a bollock on their lineup this year. They went with Richard Ashcroft because he did well as Oasis support - But realistically, you're not getting 50k people in a field to hear the 4 or 5 songs they know at like £70+ a ticket. Can't get my head around the Kasabian booking, either. Finsbury Park was a bold move for them, and yes it sold out, but I think you're more likely to see people make the journey to London if they want to see them rather than Glasgow. A second similar capacity show was always going to be a big ask for them.
