Interesting. Drogba gone too. One or two of Malouda, Essien and Ferreira also expected to go.

Bramo going to splash the cash it seems. Fatso needs replacing too this summer to give someone else a year or two to adapt.

I think comparing club and international sides is a really stupid idea. They are comparing clubs who play amost 100% competitive games with nations who play a significant amount of friendlies. Spain have hardly lost a competitive game in recent years but in the last couple of years have lost to england, italy portugal and argentina in friendlies. Its not too much of a stretch to think they wouldnt have lost all those games if the result mattered.

well obviously its only going to be tested if its needed. Its the start of a long process. Although they will use a real game scenario to test out the equipment. Even if a clean goal happens they can check how well hawk eye did.

It doesn't change the game in any shape or form. There's only need for the game to stop if the system says it's over the line, otherwise it can continue as normal.

Similarly, a system for 'ball over the line' for the boundaries around the pitch I don't have an issue with, if they wanted to do it. A ball is either one side of the line or the other, no dispute, and the game stops when it's over the line.

But in-game video reviews and stuff? Nah, I'm absolutely against those. There'd end up causing more and longer breaks, and wasted bits of play.

Oh yeah I know his history, when I said "for some reason the big teams dont want" I was using him as a general example. The way I look at it the likes of liverpool cant get the players the best teams want. So there is 2 options either go for inferior players like adam and downing who the big teams dont want because of lack of ability or go for the players who have the ability but the big teams dont want because of other factors. The latter option is the high risk, high reward option and I think liverpool should be gambling not playing it safe. Play safe and they may get 6th or 7th but what difference will that really make. When I heard them linked to the likes of Junior Hoilett I find it very underwhelming.

Speaking of clubs not giving a fuck about FFP - Man City made a £195m loss last year, half of the entire Premier Leagues deficit and the biggest loss by any club in the history of football. Their wages alone (£174m) were £21m more than their overall turnover (£153m). And that doesn't include the £76m they spent on players.

Although I have huge issues with the "interfering with play" bollocks with the offside rule. If you're standing in an offside position you're active and interfering with play for fucks sake. You don't become invisible.

A player is *always* and continuously interfering with play just by being on the bloody pitch.

Unless of course its Stuart Downing.

Surely you're only interfering with play if you're involved in that phase of play?

I don't think a player should be penalised for being offside, unless the team are gaining an advantage from the player being in that position.

The defending team are responding to what the attacking team are doing. By being in an offside position, even a harmless one, the defenders and keepers will be acting differently. Even if its minimal.

Its easier just to have a blanket rule in my opinion. No blurred boundaries.

nope, they couldn't - there's no way for it to do a 'which side of the line is it?' for a moving line.

I'd give up on football if they ever tried to introduce something for the offside rule, because it would change the game. The game couldn't be played in anything like the way it's played now.

How were the plympic football teams decided? Theres a reported 160 odd countries competing in the olympics, with only 16 teams in the football tournament. Was there big qualifying tournaments like the standard for world cups, euros etc etc? Or did teams just not bother entering teams?

I feel sorry for Ruddy even as a benchwarmer he will probably never get the chance to go to an international tournament again. I think Jack Butland is the first ever England player in a world cup/euro squad who I have never heard of!

He's been the England u21 first choice for a while. Saw him play for Cheltenham vs Oxford this year, and although he came across as a massive twat, he was very good.

Not that it matters, as I'd imagine the most game time he'll see is during the warm up friendlies.

That's a scary thought, whichever way it goes. If it goes well, I can see Woy being reluctant to restore Rooney.
