Rio and Cleverly were first team when Utd were going to walk the league at the start of the season. People forget how well Cleverly was playing.

Rio then turned to shit (he's improved loads since), to the extent that Fergie said he was no longer a first choice.

As for Cleverly, while he might have become a guaranteed first choicer (and he was playing well), it's a bit too soon to be saying that. He's yet to have a run in the team for anyone to find out.

Utd look firstly to keep the ball, as do Chelsea.

The reason I like watching the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal far FAR more than the likes of Utd or Chelsea is because they look to do something useful with the ball.

Utd's and Chelsea's methods bring them success, there's no doubt about that. But it doesn't make for a great specticle.

Yep.

Having the team doing fuck all for most of the match by sitting back and absorbing what the other team are doing and making just the (relative) occassional foray into the opponents half doesn't make for great viewing for any neutral. Of course there's matches that are better than that, but the majority are how I've said it.

Thats madness. Liverpool haven't played "attractive" football consistently since the late 80s. They were gash to watch under Houllier (Heskey on the left wing!), they were gash to watch under Benitez and gash to watch during the Hodgacaust. Kenny is trying to get a passing game back in fairness to him but he doesn't have the players to do it. Yet.

Oh, I don't disagree. I'm sure you've noticed an increased interest of mine in Liverpool over the last year. Before that I mostly used to be accused of being an Arsenal fan.

They were defo gash under Rafa in their style of play, but the likes of (particularly) Alonso still gave them that 80s feel. He reminded me a lot of Molby in his style, tho Alonso played further back rather than never moving out of the centre circle.

Wenger plays nice football at times, (great about 10 years ago) but he hasn't for a few years. His ethos and unwillingness to change his style of play means they've won nothing for years, the crowd are booing the players at half time and people are calling for Wenger to go.

yep - they've mostly lost it. Sunday was the perfect example of them being completely unable to pass their way around a defence in the way that they used to.

I'm still just about hanging in there with my interest in them, because they're still trying to play like that (even tho they don't seem to have the players to do it now) and it might come back.

Also, Chelski played lovely football under Ranieri, but won nothing.

I enjoy both. LOVED seeing Henry score for Arsenal vs Leeds. One of the highlights of the year for me. But I'll enjoy Utd playing shite and hammering Liverpool in Old Trafford in a few weeks much more!

yeah, that Henry goal was wonderful moment, not least because it was such a typical Henry for Arsenal goal. I made the effort to get to the pub to watch that match purely to see Henry back in action, and sitting thru the dull first 75 minutes was more than worth it for that.

As for Utd hammering Liverpool, we'll have to see. While Utd are more than capable of beating them, Liverpool's record against the better teams is exceedingly good under Kenny when everything is taken into consideration, even tho they've often struggled against the weaker teams.

I hate the yellow. It's a disgusting colour. Almost as bad as our old away kit! Don't particularly mind the layout, just need to get used to it. I've always felt it needed improving, but I'm not sure it's much better yet.

On tonight's results: 5th Absolutely delighted with that. Not that we deserved the win, we didn't play particularly well, but defended just about well enough, and took the chances we needed to.

Still, 5th place before Ba returns and Cisse starts, with Tiote due back after our next 3 games. Next 6 games include away to Arsenal and Spurs, but also 4 home games against mid-table opposition, Villa, Wolves, Sunderland, Norwich. None easy, but very winnable.

Worrying for Blackburn though, inept in the box without Yakubu. For all their shots, Krul didn't have to make any great saves. Lots of good ones, but none spectacular.

Tough times for Arsenal as well, very poor result.

It will probably be like when they change bbc weather every few years, everyone moan and a few weeks later they have forgotten. What I liked about the old site was the simolicity, click on the league you want, click on live scores and you get a list of current scores and goalscorers. Now when you do it you have a list of games and you have to click on each one to find the scorers along with stats about posession and shots which I have no interest in.

I have a feeling that the relegation fight this season will be a lot duller than last, can see the bottom 3 getting caught adrift.
