I've just had a meeting where I was told that Orange don't have the same arrangements with Glastonbury that they've had in previous years.

I'm not entirely sure if this means they no longer have any relationship at all with Glastonbury, but from the little I was told it sounds as tho they don't.

With Q also having supposedly disappeared from having a relationship with Glastonbury, I guess the fest has either decided to have much less sponsorship, or the sponsorship agreements have expired* and have been replaced by agreements with new sponsors.

(* which seems quite likely - they normally make agreements to run until a break year; this year was originally planned to be the break year, so it6's quite possible that the agreements expired after last year's fest)

As long as this doesn't mean phone reception goes balls up (like it did on 02 a few years back) I like the idea of less sponsorship if that's the case. Also the chill and charge tent is the worst place in the world that's generally full of people more interested in bragging to their friends on facebook than experiencing something.

Orange usually have 5-6 temporary masts actually on site, maybe other providers had similar amounts but outwith the perimeter fence (I know of several that were a few years back anyway)

Frankly that makes room for a stage. I'm no fan of the orange 'chill and charge' setup, which has as much of a footprint for huge queues as the place itself. Not to mention that an hour of charging made nill benefit to myself and rather than chilling it was like a sweatbox in there ;)

orange and t-mobile merged into a new company since glasto 2010, doubtless the preparation for rebranding the merged business means ending spending on individual brand promotion.

in the 3 years ive been to glastonbury never used the chill and charge once, gotta say most times i passed though the queue was really long so it was either popular or a neccesity to some people. I hope someone takes over doing the Q daily, like someone above said, it was something to sit and give a quick read through and ive got every issue here from the years i went stored away. sad git as well !

YAY :D

Maybe for this year we will see sponcership? Didn't the glasto earth stuff say that they would have a venue like the queeens head or itself but without Q sponsorship this year and since Leftfield is taking that place, maybe they could be moving that to where the orange chill and charge is?

can I ask for those that don't queue up for 'chill and charge' how you make your phone last the full festival? Are there stalls that charge phones?

I'm thinking of getting a solar power charger thingy for it...anyone use these?

The site of people cueing for over an hour to charge up their phone and check their facebook always baffles me... Do you really need to contact someone that urgently whilst your at a festival?

I always thought the chill n charge was a huge waste of space...untill i purchased an orange phone last month. And it decides to leave NOW!? lol

BTW, what was in that chill n charge tent (as in the set-up)? There always seemed to be big queues but i never went close enough to see what was inside. I'm imagining big bean bags, beautiful ladies fanning you down, and waiters giving you free cocktails... B)
