Glastonbury 2009

2009 was a brilliant festival, and it contends for the best one I've been too - mostly because the three Pyramid headliners were magnificent, and I had a massive group of friends come for the first time (they worked too so by the end they really felt part of the festival) and it was great introducing them to the festival that has become such a big part of my life.

The "undercard" in 2010 was by far the best line up I've been to (i.e most aligned with my tastes)

My festivals rated

2007 - Friday the best music line up I think I've ever seen. Rest pretty sparse but plenty of time for exploring. The unending rain however even dented my eternal optimism

2008 - Best atmosphere by far. With all the media on a downer, everyone came with a "f**k you world, I'm going to have the time of my life" attitude. Jay Z, Big Len and Hot Chip all SLAYED it. Was sad seeing some interesting bands (Stars, BOH, The National) play to next to no one in the JP tent though

2009 - Best set of headliners. Biggest spectacle. Most fun I've had

2010 - Best line up, awesome weather. Clash with football was kind of annoying though

so many highlights, Neil Young, Blur, Nick Cave, Specials, CSN, f**ked up, The Slips, King Blues, Dreadzone.....and thats just of the top of my head

It was perfect and memorable as it was my first Glastonbury.

I have a great time in different ways every year though. If I had to pick a favourite it would be 2007, but that's definitely just me!

I'd suggest you're not doing it properly if you can remember more than 5.

I'll never forgove myself for choosing Prodigy over Blur, so my 2009 is always going to be tainted. Still, Specials and Madness in the same weekend was most excellent!!

Out of the 3 glastos I've done so far, 2009 was the one I saw most bands at, which was great cos there were loads I wanted to see that year.

I know you think this is a rubbish little comment to make but youre just gonna have to believe me. I don't have the skin for it. Most days didnt leave the tent area until like 3pm. I love a good nights sleep at Glasters. Even if its only 4 or 5 hours. In 2010 I got less than 3 hours kip every night.

Can totally understand how a sun worshipper like yer good self would rate it the highest - but it was extreme heat mate.

Besides - the music in 2009 was mindblowing. Have a funny feeling that this year will top 'em all though.

The reason 2007 worked for me was that I saw so many bands and that was because the weather kept me moving. There was no dossing round the campsite, or sitting out anywhere enjoying the scenery, it was non-stop end to end bands, combined with relentless drinking to cope with the conditions! It was a Glastonbury left me feeling that I'd not wasted a single second.

However - offer me that weather agin for next time I would say NOOOOOOOOOO!!! No! No! NO!

2010 was the other extreme - I left feeling like I hadn't really done it justice, although I still had a great time and oddly, would still take that weather again over what we got in 2007.

2008/2009 had exactly the right weather, the Pyramid bill was better in 2009 overall for me, but I got around the site more and had more rounded Glastonbury experience in 2008.

I think every Glastonbury has something special about it, and sometimes it's hard to rate different kinds of specialness.

I saw f**k all bands last year in comparison to other years. A lot of late night activity. Resulted in one of the worst hangovers ever though, think it was the Saturday. Just hanging to bits. Got up at about 7pm. Praying to God sort of hangover - "Please God, I won't drink as much later if you just release me from this pain". Hangovers are no fun after 3 hours sleep in 30+ degrees.

as 2009 was my first glasto and first festival, i must say it was amazing! blur, madness, specials, the wombats, the maccabees were the highlights for me!

then my mates (and lift home) decided by the Sunday lunchtime that they'd had enough, and we headed home.

2009 started great for me, was REALLY in the mood and had friends dotted around the site so going on my own wasn't an issue for me, however I was missing my kids badly on sunday and the state of the site by that point (as well as the state of my wallet, fag supply and doobage) I was on a massive downer and by the time I got home monday evening I was quite grumpy.

2010 however, I went with my daughter, managed to nab crew camping, had THAT weather (which led to my first glasto shower experience) and saw performances which ranged from great through to mediocre and didn't give a damn. I left on a high, having spent monday chilling with old friends. For me, 2010 was perfect and of all my festivals (and glastos) was the very best.
