What makes me laugh about people slagging off Gorillaz by basically saying they played the new album which the general public didn't really know was in the old days that was considered a brave thing to do - people didn't slag Radiohead off in 97 for playing OK Computer when no-one had heard it at that point - how times have changed!

I'm sure it's bollocks. I've just got an e-mail from seetickets saying my Manchester Gorillaz tickets were dispatched yesterday. Surely the promoter wouldn't have released the tickets if there was any doubt of it going ahead.

and as for whether it's ok to go on stage and perform a whole load of new material on an unsuspecting crowd, that would depend on the album, surely? I mean, when The Who were performing most of Who's Next for the first time, there weren't many people complaining then, either

Bit patronising really. I'm using it as an example. People aged 17-26 living within half an hour of the fest- a fairly good sample.

Prince isn't that recognisable to the average person. I may have recognised him (not that I know him that well, a 'big' artist that really passed me by) but others certainly wouldn't have. Prince coming on stage with the Gorillaz may well have recieved a muted reaction. I don't know anyone who is a massive Prince fan really.

that's not the reason people who didn't like are giving (well, maybe one or two might be).. it's that they were uninspiring.. they didn't even look like they were particularly enjoying the show themselves..

Watching the finale with Snoop back, and then wandering through a few other highlights from the set on Youtube, I remember that the highpoints of that set were as high as pretty much anything I've experienced at Glastonbury. Melancholy Hill is just about the happiest tune I have ever heard and to hear it at Glastonbury made me so happy that I cry when I hear it now! I don't know if that makes any sense.

....and I had missed Snoop in the afternoon because my mum had just arrived on the coach and was nearly collapsed with heatstroke so I had had to sit with her in the shade near our tent and ply her with water until she turned a normal colour....so when Snoop came on at the end of that set I was ecstatically excited.

Look at the crowd there. Does it look thin? Does it look flat?

I left that set absolutely buzzing....sure there were slow and baffling bits but thats Damon and it always has been, and there is a saying about having downs to appreciate ups, and that may have been what really worked for me about this set, maybe it was that there was enough space between the highpoints for me to really appreciate each of them individually and properly.

I know I loved it at the time, but I also got dragged down a bit by all the negativity in the aftermath. Now - I am getting more and more sure that I loved it again.

if they cancel manchester that would be really bad form after canceling glasgow and newcastle. i had tickets to see them in glasgow and was super excited to see them, tickets came through and then was informed the gig was canceled, so having your ticket aint a guarantee unfortunately. once the gig was canceled i was offered tickets to the manchester gig instead of a refund, glad i chose the refund

I agree that expectations might have changed, but there is also a difference in quality.

I, personally, thought Gorillaz was a load of pretentious, dull, uninspiring bollox tbh.... how many of their new songs do you think will be considered great in the years to come? I didn't go to see them hoping, in some daft negative way, to be boring, but after a few tunes, we looked at each other and both thought the same thing... what the f**k are they even trying to do? let alone whether they're succeding or not

I've been to every Glastonbury since 1994 and the Gorillaz set was one of the best things I've seen in that time.

It wasn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but as a set it had a little bit of everything stylistically, a lot of brilliant cameos (without them going over the top and making a big deal of it) and... well... I just like the tunes. I can't believe people are still bitching and moaning after all this time about this, whereas nobody would be talking about it at all by now if we'd had, say, a reformed Oasis. Who were given a Pyramid headline slot both times and utterly screwed it up on both occasions.

I like Gorillaz and watched the first half hour. At first I wasn't even 100% sure they'd come on (Snoop on the screens and everyone around us carried on chatting, could've just been a tape playing for all I knew), they then played a few songs I recognised but didn't know that well. There was no big entrance (see Flaming Lips, for example) to get the crowd worked up, the set just sort of faded in. This meant the crowd around us was bored, still chatting and only half-paying attention, people started leaving and it all went downhill from there.

Except right at the end when it apparently went up again, I was in tears of happiness singing "Do You Realize??" around then though so I wouldn't know

I think the main difference was that Oasis royally screwed up their slot whereas Gorillaz were an excellent stand-in for performers who cancelled at the last minute.

If you class losing half your audience in the first 5 songs excellent then fair play I guess. The gorillaz set was wrong for a pyramid crown and plastic beach was comercially a failure. Nobody around me even knew the set had even started and just carried on chatting.

gorillaz are set to cancel manchester show due to a lack of ticket sales...i have a friend who works for Manchester MEN and he told me theyre pulling the plug. bugger! its set to be public news anytime soon im afraid.

i wonder if the negative reports from the glasto gig have had an impact on theyre ticket sales?
